I found this little fellow in my garden when I got home today. I've trawled through a few books and a few websites, but have yet to find a positive ID. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for looking, Enjoy the rest of the week.

Nice composition and sharp shot of this beautiful caterpillar that looks like some exotic species. What sort of plant is it on?

Nice shapes and colors here, Alan. Well composed shot, too. Sorry, I'm no help on the ID.

Brilliant image of this hairy caterpillar, Alan. Or am I wrong in assuming it is a caterpillar?
All the same, it is a lovely composition with a superb POV, DOF, sharpness and colours.
Thanks a lot for sharing it.

Colorida macro con bella composición amigo mío.
La nitidez es muy buena y se aprecia sobre todo en las hojas de la planta, debido a lo difícil de retratar especies así.
Una pequeña imagen para una gran presentación.
Saludos... Ricardo

Colorful macro with beautiful composition my friend.
The sharpness is very good and it is appreciated mainly in the leaves of the plant, due to the difficult of depicting this way species.
A little image for a great presentation.
Greetings... Ricardo

Hi Alan,
it's wonderful - the colours are so phantastic and I also like the place (palm) where this one is sitting on.
It's always difficult to find the ID, I also cannot help, anyway I love the shot.
I'm just back from my week in Italy - there I haven't seen a single caterpillar - but some butterflies, bye

Hallo Alan,
I spent some time to identify this caterpillar but I didn't succeed. It probably belongs to a family of the Microlepidoptera (what's the body length?).
Nevertheless, you present a nice, colourful and well composed picture with pretty good sharpness on plant and caterpillar.
Best wishes, Peter

P.S. The food plant can give a hint on the identity. Do you know it?

hi alan
joli cliché on voit plus souvent ce que deviennent les chenille.
la composition est reussie avec les couleurs de la plante qui tranche bien avec celles de le chenille.

Hi, Alan.
Nice caterpillar. Very good exposure and colors.

ID'ing caterpillars is a nightmare! Everyone has photos of butterflies! I have a few from Bedford Butterfly Park (which I recommend) and will have to try to ID them before posting.
This one is quite exotic looking for a Bucks back garden!
Nice compo, I especially like the repeating pattern of the plant leaves.
Lovely colours as well. Sharpening just right is difficult with these fine hairs. They look a little too bright to me.
Have a good weekend, I hope the weather improves!

Alan,
This is one cool image. I love the composition and the detail. The f/4 was a perfect apperature setting for this shot. The red/pink lines in the plant also gives it some great additional color. Superb pic from a great photographer! I always look forward to your shots.
