Female Ringlet, Aphantopus hyperantus

Here is a picture from today of the upperside of a female Ringlet. There is nothing special about the subject, but the markings are clearly shown in this open wing pose.

The picture was taken in cloudy weather, but using fill-in flash from two Nikon mini lights. The image has been cropped and then the noise reduced using Neat Image. It has then been resized and sharpened in Photoshop Elements.

Usually Ringlets are quickly disturbed by the flash and often the image shows the butterfly flapping away instead of sitting still. Today I set the camera to shutter priority at 1/200th which is the quickest selectable with the flash. I also used the 60mm macro lens so I could get closer and therefore more light from the artificial sources. Seems to have worked quite reasonably.

Hola Alan,

Great shot of this grey-brown colored butterfly. I must simply admire the beauty of this fly....it's awesome!

Very natural colors, great sharpness and soft background makes it more splendid and beautiful. Wonderful sharpness of the facial part of the butterfly, especially the eyes and antennae. Over all, a great job!

Well done!

Have a nice weekend ahead.

Hi Alan,
A nice capture of this beautiful female ringlet butterfly. Very well composed with sharp details. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Bonito trabajo Alan.
