I was with my daughter at Chester Zoo on Sunday 11th. June.
This tigress was lying just near the mesh fencing of her compound.
There were lots of people there and one of them was saying how cute the tigress looked.
She turned around, as if in response to those words and gave us all this wonderful snarl.
It was like she was saying "is this cute enough for ya?
Tigers are beautiful, they are majestic and they are awe inspiring, but "cute" is not a tag I would put on them, it is somehow demeaning and degrading to call a tiger "cute".
I really don't like zoos but we are stuck with them as the only possibility for most people to see wild creatures in the flesh.
Chester Zoo is said to be one of the best, but at the end of the day, it is more of a business than it is a conservation project.
Profits first.
Before much more time passes this will be the only way for anyone to see a live tiger in the flesh.
When the forest hears the last roar of the last wild tiger, it will be the saddest day for all of us.
God's greatest work of art destroyed by some of his greatest follies,- ignorance, greed, stupidity and selfishness.

WOW!! And Wow again. What a shot. Truely fabulous and great clarity. Certainly not cute but definitely gorgeous, majestic and a little bit scarey! I do agree with you re zoos but as you say, we are stuck with them.
This is wonderful - thanks for sharing.

Beautiful shot, Roy. Good details and good light. With regard to your comments about zoos, while I visiting a zoo in Japan I was struck by the observation that the worse the zoo is for animals, the easier and more interesting it is for kids. My favorite exception is San Diego's Wild Animal Park, where the animals are free to roam and mix over a huge space, and people have to travel in a small tram. That's great for kids, too.
Best,
Mike

Hi Roy,
A nice shot of this beautiful Tiger, nicely framed and good detail and colour. I love the way the whiskers spread right out, excellent. Agree with the points you make in your note, 5 of the 8 species already gone and things looking bleak for the rest in their natural habitat, especially after what's been going on in some of the reserves in India. I finally made it to Ranthambore last October, it was a dream of mine for a long time too. Nice work.
Cheers,
Adrian
