Hello,

well a bit of change from the usual coastal shots with this one! Some friends and i went to a local nature reserve very early Saturday morning to try to shoot some Sika Deer on the tidal marshes of Poole Harbour. Alas they seemed to prefer to keep a safe distance from us and were frustratingly out of range of our camera's.
As we were walking back, not dissappointed at all but just happy to have been out at this magic time of day, we were watching the numerous birds and Rabbits waking up and going about their daily business of feeding themselves and perhaps their young too.
I saw this little chap jump up onto this sun bathed tree stump and start cleaning himself...too much to resist for me, a took a couple of shots and walked on.
Not the best wildlife shot i know (mine never are!), but i like the setting and the little perch he's found himself so i thought some of you might too. I like to think it's the same stump he uses everyday to clean himself..

shot in RAW, handheld, a tweak of curves and redecution of highlights, increased Saturation + 4, resized, converted to JPEG and sharpened.

Thought about cropping it a bit to get more rabbit and less surroundings, but i thought i'd leave it as it is, as i quite like the plants and trees too..

Thanks for looking..

Good coastal shot, Paul;-).
This is exactly a beach boy:-). Early in the morning and already very busy, this fellow.
Well done

Hi Paul,
yes, this shot is different from your others ^^
The rabbit is captured very sharp and in a nice pose.
The green plants in the foreground give the rabbit a natural framing.
The blurred trunk in the foreground is a little bit too dominant in the picture for my taste ;)
I love your coastal shots, but its very interesting to see something different, too.

Hi Paul,
I think that you made the good choice regarding composition and the result is something different and original. This is a tender and beautiful scenery captured. I like this lightning and exposure a lot, well seen!
Claudine

Mr Haynes

A gorgeous little fellow. Glad you did not crop it as the scenery has lovely colourings as well as the bunny.

Jai

P.S We will go back in the evening and we will see Deer I promise.....

You shall surely have to start a catagory called "Small rabbits, Big World"... It is where it belongs and the photo shall be added to that theme as well..very emotion filled image...yet in ways so simple.
Bob

Hi Paul, excellent image!! The composition is really good, capturing the rabbit grooming itself. Good choice to leave as is...tfs

Hi Paul

This maybe a little different from your usual shots - but it still demonstrates your excellent eye for composition and lighting.

This is an excellent photo!!
Firstly, that post you've captured is brilliant and shows clearly that this little Rabbit was, like you said, cleaning itself.
Very good composition using all the landscaping rules to their best!
Great sharpness, focus, DOF and detail.
Lovely warm light.

Excellent stuff!

Joe

Hi Paul.
What an impressive and nice scene. It looks like from beautiful fairy-tail. Simply charming image of the cute animal. Surroundings are majestic. Lights, darks and colours create a strong esthetic impression. So interesting, attractive work. My best wishes.
Alexei.

Hello Paul
This is a first class wildlife capture and all without a grad!!
I see a lot of Rabbits every day and they are super wary so to catch him in this lovely pose on a trunk obviously required a lot of stealth.
I agree with you to an extent about the crop..The lush green foliage has created a natural frame for bunny so possibly removing half the tree on the left may be better?..Im not sure..either way its a cracking shot and really highlights your skill with a camera when you have a change from your awesome seascapes.
All the best mate
Paul

Well, Paul, don't say you don't make good wildlife shots, I think this one is original, very well composed with the big tree to the left and the light is wonderful. Plus, this little rabbit is so lovely, it's irresistible! It stands against the dark background and is so concentrated getting cleaned. Very well captured, Paul, I love this shot!

Hello Paul,
Something unusual from you, but possibilites in nature are illimited. I love this very narrative shot. It is just looking from a certain distance what happened so naturally and normally without witness.
Very pleasant shot
Best regards
Anne

You know Paul, the first thing that strikes me when I see this shot is the almost fairy tale like atmosphere.Mom, by my bed side, telling me a story, or an image of me reading an Enid Blyton book. One ends up looking for brownies and goblins.Lol!
I love this shot.Simply super, bro!

Hello Paul,
For me there is a great deal of AHHHHHH factor here and it would have been a crime to crop this image. Not only do you have a great eye but good sense as well. Thanks Paul.

Hello Paul,
Though I like your coastal shots a change is also nice.
Excellent capture, especially as it is uncropped in a perfect composition framing a rabbit having a wash. The dark BG makes it show up very well.
A fine shot and thanks for sharing it,

Ivan

Ahh Paul this is lovely. I love that sweet pose and he looks wonderful in the woodland setting. Great light and good sharpness. I find it difficult to photograph bunnies, most animals will tolerate my presence but all I ever see of rabbits are little white bums vanishing down holes (apart from the one that waiting with me at a bus stop...but that is a different story)
