[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Christchurch was a delight for me to visit. The river teems with a variety of species of water birds. This one was quite bold, venturing near the docks and even jostling the much larger swans.

From Wikipedia:
The Eurasian Coot Fulica atra breeds across much of Europe and Asia on freshwater lakes and ponds. It is resident in the milder parts of its range. The Coot is 36-42 cm long, and is largely black except for the white facial shield. This species builds a nest of dead reeds and grasses near the water's edge or on underwater obstacles protruding from the water, laying up to 10 eggs, although usually only 2-3 chicks survive.

Please forgive my inability to critique as fully as I did earlier. I will be back in full swing by the beginning of August. In the mean time, I would like to continue sharing photos from my recent archives with you. Thank you for your visits and and especially for your critiques.

Many thanks for the good wishes for recovery that many members have sent me off-list.

Hi Silke.
Great detail and eye contact, the composition with the head slightly turned looks good. Maybe a bit over-exposed on the white on his face but still a good shot.

Hi Silke,

Glad to see you are feeling well enough to take pictures and use your computer! This is a lovely shot of this Coot - another one I have never seen. Love that red eye looking at you. Lovely details on his face and plummage. I like the shades of black and greys. Beautiful swirls in the water. Take care.

Hello Silke,
Though a common bird. you have captured this Coot finely with good sharpness. pose and from an excellent POV. The colour and lightmanagement is first class, allowing us to see the red eye without too muchOE of the white.
TFS and best wishes, Ivan

Impressive details in the bird!
I notice the small drops of water on the plumage, nice...
Dynamic, with good diagonal movement in the frame!

Pablo

Nice capture and very sharp, shame it was from a high angle and not at the birds level, overall though a great capture

Hi Silke,

A nice image of the eurasian coot and of its movement in the water, the photo has a good composition, sharpness and nice colors. Thanks for sharing.
