[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This was taken at a local nature reserve which has a large lake in the middle and is surrounded by heathland it is managed by The Dorset Wildlife Trust. It is only a small area now surrounded by a large noisy industrial estate but still thrives with wildlife. I can not ID this Dragonfly so any help will be appreciated.

Thanks to Radomir + Ivan + joe. I can now confirm this is the Female Common Darter. ( Sympetrum striolatum. )

Hi Nick,
an excellent shot.
The colours seem to be a bit frab fro a Common Darter but the only other dragonfly it could be is the Ruddy Darter which has completely black legs and vivid yellow at the base of each wing which this dragonfly doesn't have, so I'm pretty sure it's a Common Darter.
+++ Great colours, superb BG and DOF, very sharp and detailed great POV.
--- Nothing :)
Well done,
Joe

Hello Nick,
Before I read Radomir's critique I thought this might be a female Common Darter (S. striolatum) and now I'm convinced that it is. I like the pose and composition on the Bell Heather and the dragonfly is sharp enough to stand out against the busy but OOF BG.

TFS and enjoy your weekend,
Ivan

Hello Nic, splendid macro shot with excellent focus and great deepht of field, lovely colors, pose and composition,
very well done
friendly,
Pat

OK...so maybe that is correct as mine....per Joey. This is of course a much better shot of a darter. You were able to sharpen without going overboard. I had to make up for my lens which is not macro but apparently good enough to blow up large. A great shot and I tend to like this angle.

Hi Nick,
that's a beautiful one, I like the warm colours and the nice BG. I haven't seen a single one of this specimen this year - and I wonder why. But several others which I never saw before ;-) Changing every year, that's good variety. Bye and greetings

bonjour nick

Hello Nicholas,
I am not sure for 100% (I can not see profile of thorax...) but in my opinion it is a female of Sympetrum striolatum - Common Darter
This is nice, sharp picture with good details and POV.
Best regards and TFS,
Radomir

Lovely how the wing come forward over the flower as if protecting it. A great shot - sharp and clean.
