This Robin comes in to the garden the moment you step into it. He sits on this old branch i put by the feeder chasing any other birds away .I have seen him have a go at a Pigeon much to its surprise. This was taken handheld in Raw then converted and resized for TN.

Robin ( Erithacus rubecula ) Length 14cm.
The Robin is one of the most familiar and popular garden Birds of all. The Robin is an aggressive species with the males sometimes fighting to the death to defend their territory.
The male and female are almost identical with brown crown, wings, upperparts and tail, a grey band along the sides of the breast, white belly and the famous red breast which is actually a deep orange colour. Juvenile Birds can cause confusion as they lack red in their plumage, being a rather dull spotty brown in colour.
Robins sing all year round, defending summer and winter territories with their fluty melodic song.
The Robin can be found in almost every garden as it is one of the tamest Birds, happily feeding alongside humans as they work. They will often take live food such as Earthworms or Mealworms from the hand.
Breeds from March to August building a cup shaped nest from grass and leaves lined with hair. Lays 4-6 pale blue-white eggs lightly spotted with red and incubates for 13-15 days. The young fledge after 12-14 days. They often have two broods

Great composition and pose - the bent branch as perch is really god. Great detail and isolation of the robin too.

Hi Nicholas,
Sharp picture with lovely blend of colours.
With warm regards.

Hello Nick,

How nice, that we are neighbours this evening and you are posting my very favourite bird!

Robins all seem to have terrific character!
I have just watched one sit bravely in the bush, waiting for my cat to vacate the decking. The minute the cat moved, the robin was on the bird table!

I can see the determination in the eyes of this little guy! I am not surprised that he attacked a pigeopn! Lovely, character defining, glint in the eye! Great detail and colours of both the robin and the branch.

kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Nicholas,
i´ve read your note and it is a comon bird, it must to be because I seen a huge number of pics about them. But´s a very nice tiny bird, I like its colours. You´ve portraited very well with great details and sharpness. TFS

They do have this notion of getting used ot us don't they? I wonder what it is....some sort of aviary communications but we shall more than likely not translate it in our lifetimes...Very good then Sir Nick!
Bob

Perky chap!! I have to admit to not being a "Robin" fan...but I have no objections to seeing such a good one on the site!! You have got the colours and details to a very high level, the pose is also excellent. The catch light is also very good. Excellent image and tfs..

Excellent capture of this beautifull Robin Nick! TFS.

Deniz

Hi Nicholas, outstanding photo with exceptional sharpness, clarity, detail and beautiful rich colors. The focus on bird AND limb is perfect!
I am not sure about composition. Wondering if you could crop just below limb and some off right side, thus leaving the subject in upper right one-third of frame?

Hello Nicholas,
Fantastic capture of this adorable little
bird, excellent composition and very good
point of view, superb sharpness and details,
good light and depth of field,
great pose.

Hi Nick,

I get so jealous each time I see your Robin friend. Hopefully I will see an American Robin in Colorado next month. Beautiful pose on the slightly curved branch. Lovely colors, fine details, and you captured that wonderful Robin expression perfectly.

Hello Nick,
This is such a cute little one you got here in wonderful soft tones and BG that goes so very well with its own colours.
I would have preferred a slight change in the palcement of the subject to the side, but you being the seasoned photographer that you are, am sure wud have had other thots on the presentation.
TFS & Cheers

Hi Nick,
what a nice friend you have :-)
I used to have a Robin friend in my garden but it seems he has moved on because I haven't seen him in a while :-(
They are viciously territorial like you explained and I saw two males fighting once and they nearly killed each other!

Anyhow!

This is a brilliant shot!
Vibrent colours and lovely warm light. The red fence in the BG is in my opinion great as it compliments the Robin's colours.
Sharp and detailed with excellent clarity.
Well composed and a great POV.
Excellent DOF.
Very well done Nick!

TFS!

Joe

Hello Nicholas , very good comp and POV , i love colors , TFS and good luck .

Hello Nicholas,

Your beautiful colored frame leads me to your object. The bent branch as position is really good. POV, DOF and BG are good. Razorsharp Fine details. I like the wingfeathers very much. They are so nice. Regards and TFS BOB

Hi Nick, lovely friend for you, cute little Robin with splendid colors, perfect focus and great sharpness, very well done, ciao Silvio

Hi Nicholas,
The title works well for this, considering the patterned BG.
The bird couldn't be much better technically, an excellent job here :)
