Hello everyone,

Had a walk at a spot i haven't been to for quite some time last night, a place not so imaginatively named South Beach near Studland. It marks the spot where the 'Jurassic Coast' of Dorset begins and continues for 70 miles westwards.
The Jurassic Coast consists of Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous cliffs, spanning the Mesozoic Era, documenting around 180 million years of geological history.
The cliffs reflecting the setting sun in the background here are made of chalk and belong to the Cretaceous period, the youngest part of the coastline. They consist of billions of tiny sea shells and skeletons of dead marine creatures compressed over a mere 65 million years ago.
I knew i wanted to somehow get those cliffs with the light in shot somehow, but it took quite a while to find anything which i thought made for a good foreground element to compliment them. Eventually i came across this, an outlet of a stream that was pouring through the seaweed into the sea.

PP: shot in RAW, curves, an increase of saturation by + 5, converted to JPEG, resized and then sharpened.

Have a great weekend.

Hi Paul
A lovely landscape. The light is fantastic and I love the different coloured rocks. The seaweed isn't pretty but it is interesting and adds texture....very nice!
Cheers
Sue

Hi Paul

Getting nearer and nearer to see part of that amazing coastline and cliffs myself live :) Can't wait really :)

Your idea to capture that far away cliff in the superb evening light (and in this superb weather) was terrific and you managed it very well. It's sometimes difficult, i can imagine, when you're dealing with such a bright subject as chalk in the sun, no matter which grad filter you use. Add to that the fact that you had to expose at 3 seconds...i think you really did a remarkable job!
The use of this small stream as a foreground element is also smart and the long shutter effect on it is lovely. However, i have some mixed feeling about those washed algae or plants on the sides of the stream...i think that they somehow distract this harmonious and beautiful atmosphere of the sun setting on the coast.
Even so, i know how difficult it can be to always find the best element to balance a great BG with and since sunsets in spring don't really offer too much room to decide, you did a good job.
So overall: a wonderful shot, my friend. Let’s hope for more weather like that for all May :)

Bravo and TFS
Horia

Hello Paul,
It is as if the background cliffs are on fire due the setting sun. This golden effect added with all the sharp foreground elements are generating a truly beautiful image.
Well done

Hola my friend,
I'm beginning to enjoy your walks in nature almost as well as you do Paul, yet another of your wide angle naturescapes, starting -in perfect focus- right under our invisible toes and extend exquisitely non-stop towards the distant horizon. This time, your customarily loong exp. time creates a silky, tiny waterfall right in front of our noses! Thank you indeed, my friend.
Mehmet

Hello Paul,

Your search for a suitable site really paid off! This is a very interesting f/g to enjoy before moving across the beach and the calm sea to those beautiful, sun-kissed cliffs.

Your notes were very interesting!

Kind regards,
Bev :-)
Many thanks for your warm comments on 'Me and MY Shadow'.

Hi Paul!
Great to see some fresh stuff from you! Was a beautiful day yesterday and looks like you made the most of it!
The golden light shining on to the white cliffs is amazing!
As usual the FG interest is superb!
You've blurred the stream expertly and I love the contrast between that and the tack-sharp stones and seaweed.
Very well composed.
Superb DOF.
Excellent work Paul!

Cheers mate,

Joe

Hi Paul,
Outstanding shot and the FG details look fantastic. the warm lighting on the rock surface sets it on fire and I like your low POV to portray this charming scenery. The slow shutter speed has been put to use very skillfully and you have captured sone fantastic details on the water. Looks majestic. Very nicely composed. Kudos.
TFS.

It's strange because you take seascapes and coasts most of the time yet they all seem so different, depending on the light, the type of coast, weather... great shot once more, what's to say except that I love it and it is very inspiring. At the end of May we have rented a house on an island in the St.Lawrence Gulf and I am anxious to go and see all the marine life, the whales and the birds! Your pictures inspire me a lot and I hope I will honour your inspiration! Thanks a lot Paul,

Francine

Hola Paul, interesante trabajo en tu línea pero con variaciones significativas en el color, donde potencias las estridencias de la luz en las rocas y en los reflejos del agua del mar. Como siempre, un extraordinario primer plano.
Un abrazo: J. Ignasi

Hi Paul,
This is a great photo. I like how the water enters the photo at the bottom and makes its way into the big ocean. The moment of day made the photo even more impressive. The way the last rays of the day illuminated the white cliff is stunning and adds depth to the photo. I just love all the details in the FG.
