I got up early this morning and went down to my local river about 7o'clock. I went to try and capture some Damselflies before the heat of the day , there were not many about until after 9am. which is when i took this picture of the Female Banded Demoiselle.

Female Banded Demoiselle ( Calopteryx splendens ) Length 45mm
An attractive Damselfly often found resting on waterside vegetation. Males seen in small groups hovering over water, favours clean streams or rivers where Nymph lives partly buried in muddy sediment. Female has green body with metallic sheen and greenish brown wings. Can be seen between may and august. Locally common in south and central England.

Excellent sharp details, very nice colors and light.

Hi friend Nick, as I seen you also changed your main subject (birds). In this way I understood that you are also an expert on macro-photography. All are perfect my friend! TFS.
With best wishes and Cheers,

Bayram

Hi Nick

Lovely capture - beautiful strong colours and excellent detail. I have loads of these at the bottom of my garden - but there is a load of flowering May on the other bank - so I have not even tried!

James

Hello Nicholas,

Excellent composition. Great sharpness and colours. I like the low sunlight of the morning and the dew on the leaves. We have had summer weather in the Netherlands already for more than one week. It is very warm and the only insects which can be seen at noon and in the afternoon are the damselflies, today, dragonflies and the ladybirds.
Cheers,
Mariki

Hello Nick
This as sharp as you like..Just fantastic....Good work to get up early and catch them in the early sun ..Perfect dof and everything!!
Maybe on sunday if I leave early we could try a few early morning?
Paul

hi Nick, apart from your birds, this is your best shot yet...this is simply perfection. The colours and details are just first class, the control over the light is excellent. This is now on my favourite list.. tfs..regards h

Hello Nicholas,
early morning appears the best time to achieve good pictures of many insects, in particular fast and shy ones.
This is a beautiful capture of a female splendens with optimal light to show the beauty of the insect
and its green sunny environment. Besides the attractive composition, your picture is also technically excellent.
Best wishes, Peter

Hello Nick,
I look forward to seeing these flying here again! This is a very fine capture of the female in good light and all in focus. Great sharpness too and very well composed.
Many thanks, Ulla

I could be wrong but it seems some of your clarity has improved on the insect side....maybe I'm not taking enough time to go through and compare all but this one couldn't be much better than it is Nick!

Hello Nicholas,

What a very sharp photo of this Female Banded Demoiselle. I like the early morning photos always. You can see the dew on the leaves. Your Damsel is warming-up for the rest of here day. Warm colors of the Damsel. But maybe is the green color of the leave where the damsel sit on (rightside) a bit to hard. Anyway a beautiful shot. Regards and TFS BOB
