[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Another Insect taken down by my local river which i believe to be an Alder Fly.

Alder Fly ( Sialis lutaria ) Length 14mm.
The Adult is lacewing like but has broad brown wings with clearly defined black veins forming a relatively simple network.
The Wings are held in a tent like manner at rest.
They are a poor flier and can often be found resting on waterside vegetation in May-June.

Hello Nick,
An excellent macro of a Alderfly. Not only does it stand out well against the green BG but the POV, focusing and DOF is perfect.
TFS this fine image,
Have a good weekend,
Ivan

Hello Nick
You are certainly making the most of your beautiful river and finding subjects that are seldom looked at let alone captured in such great detail..This capture of the Alder is just superb..The dof is just spot on with the curving reed or grass (im not sure..Im thinking a small reed) blending away perfectly into the bg which is just perfect in its shades of green....Absolutley stunning work and perfectly presented.
Have a Good Weekend Nick..and I wish you a new hatch of subjects!!

Hi Nick,

Another beautiful picture of a fly. The details are just marvelous. Lovely colors and shadings - perfect on the green leaf and background. Wishing you a nice weekend too - Monday was a holiday here so I have the days all mixed up.

Nic, I am amazed with the depth of field you are able to get with the same 180mm Sigma that too at F 5.6 ! You almost got both the antenna in focus. The wing details are excellent.

Hello Nick,
In the thubnail there isn't much to see, but when I opened it, it was ..wow.. A great surprise. In two very simple colours such a masterpiece. Superb in all aspects. Perfect DOF.

Peter

Hi Nick, my dear friend,
Splendid shot in all aspects of this alder fly. Superb clarity, Great DOF and composition! I also like the OFF BG. TFS My friend!
Have a nice weekend!
Cheers,

Bayram
PS. Today I have got so many pc problem and thus I am stil working on it. I have to formate this PC I think.

Isn't the alder also a tree???? I remember the word from somewhere...perhaps now as I type I am thinking of an alderwood which is used in America for smoking fish and such.....interesting name none the less and such a special name for an insect which might otherwise be unremarkable...How cool is that?!

Hello Nicholas,

You did a very good photo to this apparently unatractive insect. First I am impressed by the sharpness with which you rendered the structure of the wings both in light and in shadows. It looks to me as a leaded glass window structure. For sure to render this you had to use well the light. This can also be seen from the very good natural looking color tones.

Congratulations,
Cristian
