Against A Dark Background
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Field Poppies (Papaver rhoeas) are often found where ground has been recently disturbed. In this case a patch of them were growing in soil between a ditch and path. Although not growing in a garden I think the seeds may have originally come from a cultivated strain known as 'Ladybird' - you can see a black basal spot on the lowest flower which is not so prominent on the wild form.
The shot was taken at 6:30 am which meant the sun was still relatively low. This created the soft, backlit effect. I chose 'Against A Dark Background' as the title as it seemed apt, and is also the title of one of my favourite science fiction novels I have just reread! ;p
Kind Regards

Hi Vinny
Great shot of the Poppies.
Nice sharp details with lovely colours.
Superb backlighting and the dappled light is lovely too.
Welcome to TN too
Hil
Hi Vinny,
The light in this shot is -as you point out- beautifully soft.
The vibrant red poppies seldom fail to catch the eye.
Well captured.
My regards,
David.

Hi Vinny,
Very nice backlight, both flowers and seed pods in focus. Good composition.
BTW: I suggest you Consider Phlebas :)
Cheers,
Ali
Hello Vinny,
The colours are nicely saturated, the details are good and, as you point out, the light is just perfect! It shows exactly the ppaper-thin quality of the petals.
Kind regards,
Bev :-)
