Fragrant Orchid
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
The Fragrant Orchid (Gymnadenia conopsea) lives up to its name with its sweetly scented flowers. It can be found across Europe in to Asia. Although it is not a particularly common species, it can be locally abundant. In the UK it comes into flower around midsummer.
This specimen was one of many at Badbury Rings near Wimborne, Dorset. My wife and I visited the area after work one evening. Other orchids were present, including Greater Butterfly, Bee Orchid, Twayblade and Common Spotted - the latter in large swathes of over 100 or more!
This shot was taken using a Canon 100mm USM macro. No flash was used, but my wife very patiently held a reflector to enhance the detail of this pretty flower. Apart from a minor tweak on the exposure this shot is untouched.
Kind Regards

Hi Vinny. Went up to Badbury the other eve myself and got a few common blue Butterflies. I have seen many Orchids and taken a few pictures but they never look very good . i would be pleased to get one like this. you have captured good detail and natural looking colours. Good use of the Light thanks to your wife. Well done TFS.
Nick..
Have a good weekend.

Hi Vinny,
I think it was the very same species that i critiqued for someone else yesterday..i like this beauty for its colour and compositon. The rich tones are definitely positive and provide a very warm mood..a fine PoV and good DoF that makes this composition simple yet beautiful in every manner.
TFS & cheers
Hi Vinny,
When I saw the photo, but did not yet read the note, the thing that first came to mind...how in the .... did he get such wonderful light. Now I know, its not you but your patient wife. The light did make this wonderful flower even more beautiful. But your skills also gave it these great details and DOF.
TFS,
Niek
