The Yellowhammer is a familiar yellowish bunting. The male is brilliantly yellow-breasted, with yellow head showing less darker markings. The female is duller and browner, but retains the yellow head and underparts.
This one is singing...a rattle of ZIT notes ending (as here) with a drawn-out wheezing TZEEEE.

Hi John,
Don't understand why there are no critiques on this beautiful bird image yo've shot.
Sharpness and exposure are spot on.
Colors and details in the feathers are most wonderful.
The catchlight in the eye of the bird and the fact that he does sing a song for us all :) adds a lot to the scene.
Al in all a lovely image in wich I just would like to have seen a little more space above the birds head and a little less woud on bottom.
Best regards and have a nice weekend, Harry

Hi John
Superb shot of the Yellowhammer, nicely composed and I really like the pose of him singing his heart out, lovely feather detail and excellent colours, I have never seen one yet, maybe they don't like Cumbria.

Hi John,
Superb shot of this Yellowhammer. Lovely colours and very impressive sharpness. A memorable moment captured as it sings a melodious song for you and all of us here. Excellent POV and DOF. The glint in its eyes and the blue sky as BG are special. Very nicely composed. Kudos.
TFS.

Nice image John. Good photo. I would like to get close to one of these.

Hi John,
Beautiful sharp detail in this photo of the Yellowhammer. It looks like a low light evening shot which is even better for colours. Pity we cannot see the tail but the rest is excellent.
Well done, TFS,
Peter

Hi John,
A wonderful capture of this yellowhammer. You caught him in my favorite pose with beak opened wide in song. Beautiful colors and details.
