[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Parent birds are constantly mobbed by the youngsters in their relentless requests to be fed. This parent bird actually attacked this chick, picking it up in the bill at least three times. The chick soon learnt some manners.

Hi,
Nice pic with great details and colors. Excellent presentation.
The attacking of the chicks by the coot is common practice with these birds.
They start with about 10 chicks and end up with 2 or three because the weakest ones constantly get bullied by the parents. This is just their way of making sure the stronest ones survive.
I switched off points so I cannot give you any.

Actually I have read that they attack the chicks to the point where the chicks no longer ask for food and go off and die. It is a matter of natural selection. There are only so many chicks that the parents can or choose to raise. It is a bit harsh!! Technically and compositionally it is a great photo. I love the light and the colors.

Hi john,
You have got a good'un here.
The letterbox works well with the composition.
Good definition and sharpness. Well spotted.
Peter.
PS. There is a bit of dust on your processor.

Hello John! Wonderful moment you've captured here! Total dependence by the chick, resigned looking parent. The ripples around the chick add interest to the composition. A very good shot--well done! Linda
