Identification
The almost rectangular bill with two white lines, one vertical, one horizontal, makes the whole head of a Razorbill look chunkier than that of a Guillemot. Razorbills are also blacker and longer-tailed than Guillemots and tend to fly with their heads pointing upwards. In winter Razorbills show a black mask extending down below eye level and lack the neat brown line which leads from the eye of a Guillemot.

Habitat
Breeds on cliffs and rocky coasts. Winters at sea and around coasts.

Migration
A truly marine bird which leaves its breeding sites to winter at sea in the western Atlantic as far south as north Africa.

I'd love to see these birds myself, they're so beautiful!! Excellent capture of the three showing them nicely in profile on the cliff shelf. Great details and a very fine composition.

Nice one from the summer of a three Razorbills on their nesting ledges. I like the poses and composition and they contrast well with the limestone cliff.

Hi Pekka,

It's always so wonderful to see a picture of birds interacting. You froze this moment very well. Looks just like neighbors chatting.I've never seen a Razorbill but would love to. They look fascinating. Excellent blacks and whites (not so easy to do) and a lovely setting.

with ISO 800, it gives excellent details but i wonder
if IS0 400 it would give better details, TFS
