Tufted duck, Aythya fuligula, same family as swans,ducks, and geese. (Anatidae)

Tufted ducks are medium-sized "diving" ducks, smaller than mallards. They have black on the head, neck, breast and back and white on the sides. Very gregarious, will mix with other ducks and coots.

They carry a small "crest" and sport vivid yellow eyes.
During flight, a white stripe across the back of the wing is evident.

It breeds in the UK across lowland areas of England, Scotland and Ireland, but less commonly in Wales.

Most birds are resident, but the numbers can swell during winter with birds arriving both from Iceland and Northern Europe.

Found across the UK at most times of year, reservoirs and gravel pits being usual places.

They eat a variety of foodstuffs, diving up to 6 foot(2 metres)food includes molluscs, insects and some plants.

This is a beautiful capture of this tufted duck.The plumage is similar to our scaup aka bluebill.
The lighting is well handled and the colours are vivid.
Beautiful eye detail and colour.
