I believe this Butterfly to be a Speckled Wood...
I have done a bit of research and this seems to fit the bill but I am open to other Identifications.
There is another view which again is wings closed in the workshop.

The photo was taken whilst I was in a very secluded meadow by a stream that my partner found whilst walking our dog.

I used the Sigma 50-500mm for this shot and I really am just getting to grips with how good a lense this is when you learn its capabilities combined with my own learning curve in photography.

Thanks for all crits on previous posts and a good week ahead to everyone.

No doubt about it, Paul: this is a Speckled Wood. The light seems to have been against you but you managed it well to show the underside clearly and a hint of the upper suface. The creamy yellow spots instead of orange show that this is the subspecies found in N. Europe called tircis.
Nice composition on the daisy.
Thanks for sharing this beauty,
Ivan

Might have been good to put this in the flower catagory..'cus the flower sticks out so doggone much...a daisy is it???? wow...and a coincidental butterfly. Very nicely done Paul!

Hi Paul,

A perfect name for this pretty butterfly. It shows up beautifully against the white and yellow flower - is that a daisy? Good details of the Speckled Wood's markings. Shows up so nicely with all the green leaves.

Hi Paul. Butterfly time is with us . You did so well with the sigma as you say it takes time to get use to a lens. you have captured fine detail and natural colours in this small Speckled Wood. well done TFS.

Nice capture of this Speckled Wood on a daisy :-)
I photographed one of these a few days ago for the first time this year!
Great sharpness and clarity.
Very close-in considering this was take with a bigma!
Decent DOF and a great POV.
Well done Paul!

Hello Paul, this is a nice and bright and beautiful picture of a daisy ;-)), just kidding! And you are right, I have noticed the pictures you do with your Bigma and good work, they are just great. You are right, it is an amazing lens, the colours are crisp and the light is beautiful. Thank you!

Francine

Hello Paul,

I missed this one.
I like your diversification,(if that's the right word!) In fact, I like you w/s posting even better. It is a much more unusual pov and makes a lovely composition with its sharp v shaped posture.

I wonder if you have added too much b/g with this shot and that is why some people are commenting on the flower.

I've done a little w/s. Please tell me what you think.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)
Points for both shots!
