I know very little about Fungi so an ID on this monster would be appreciated if anyone knows.
I have included another picture in the workshop which I focussed solely on the Fungi..This shot is a bit more pleasing to the eye with a reflection.

I went to a small pond (its not actually a pond..It is a large hole dug many years ago down to the water table as a farms water source). The farmer died many years ago and it virtually inaccesable now..I had to crawl on my hands and knees to get in through overgrown brambles...The tree that this fungi is growing on is not accessible at all so I am pretty sure I am the only person to have seen it.

Thanks for looking and any ideas are most appreciated on the Id of this monster Fungi,

Hi Paul. This is Just fantastic. With the refection in the water. well seen. No idea of the ID. Good detail and colours. well done TFS.
Nick..

Chicken in the woods, (laetiporus sulphureus)
is bright yellow and tiered fungi, this is more likely Oak Polypore, Piptoporus quercinus, but Gert is yer man for fungi...he should ID it no problem.. decent image though, the reflection is good and the colouration is excellent.. dont mind a bit of fungi!!

P/s if this is an oak polypore, it is legally protected!!!

Welcome to the club of the unknown...I wonder how many trillions oft hings exist which we have never seen because they are microscopic..? I am watching Nim's Island..and the girls dad is a marine biologist. He is always looking for a new protozoa and wants to name it after his daughter...I have seen my share of fungi..but I am clearly ignorant other than to say it is a very nice image for ID purpose...well seen Paul!

Hi Paul,

Wonderful shot of this large fungus. You present it in fine detail and with lovely natural colors. If you are the only person to have seen this particular one we should call it the Burford variation. A beautiful setting and I love the reflection.

Jane

Hello Paul.
It is difficult with only this point of view, but my vote goes to Polyporus squamosus :)
Ths photo is very nice, with good surrondings and a nice reflection.
Regards, Felipe.

Hi Paul,

Excellent capture of this funghi with great reflection, nice composition, sharp details, very good lighting and natural bright colours.

Hi Paul

Lovely shot - no idea what it is - but the composition, with the reflection is lovely.

Well, I wish I had picked Sciences as an optionin school..But I didn't!So here I am, stuck half the time not knowing wheat from barley!
But I do know one thing Paul, and that is that my eyes love this shot, but why, I'll tell you when my chicken brain tells me that!:)
Thanks for the shot!
It's superb!
Goldy

Hi Paul, this is a great scoop! I don't know the name but your discover is very impressive, never seen fungi like that, and the pic is wonderfull whit a beautifull environment,my best compliments,Luciano

No idea on the ID, but it is a beautiful shot, Paul. Fine detail, color and the reflection is a very pleasing asset to the overall presentation. Nice work, as usual! Cheers, Penny

Great work whatever the room turns out to be Paul,
It's an interesting comp, and the room is so huge that this works well..The reflection makes it unique..You don't see too many "reflected" fungi ;}
I can't say I've ever seen one this large before..and the tree trunk gives good scale..Very good color, details, and well exposed.
Well done!
Howard

Hi Paul,

Felipe ("extramundi") said he thinks this is Polyporus squamosus. I say this is for sure Polyporus squamosus. Click here for more photos of this specie, for example.

As an image, this is wonderful. Great composition with reflection on the water, nice colors. Very little OE on the fungi, but nothing serious. You should have removed the branch from the foreground, though (if it was possible at all).

Tfs this nice photo, greetings from Hungary, László

hello Paul

excellent shots for both images, with a lovely luminosity of the image,
great contrast, sharpness and details, i love the reflection of this one,

Hello Paul,
Not being a mycologist I had to look this up and confirm Felipe's suggestion that this is Polyporus squamosus, which is strengthened by the fact that it is growing on Elm.
I love the composition that includes the reflction in the pool at the root in superb lighting.
Well worth crawling through the undergrowth to achieve such a fine shot and thanks for sharing it.
Best regards, Ivan

Hello Paul,

Very nice picture of this amazing fungus. Excellent composition, POV, DOF and focus. Very nice natural colours.
Cheers,
Mairki

Hello Paul,

Similarily, I know nothing about fungi also, except the mushrooms I get from the greengrocer's.

Very fine shot, sharp, detailed and with a gret refection.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)
