[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I have yet to take a good capture of a Goldfinch and this is about the best to date.
They should in reality be an easy bird to capture as they do not flit about as other small passerines tend to.
The problem I have found is that unless the light is just right the red crown can be glaringly over exposed leaving the rest of the bird looking dull and drab.
This was taken in my garden and I have now planted some Teasels (the flower which produces nyger seed which is the birds favourite food) and placed them so that I will get the correct light.
So subject to the plants growing and the birds returning I should get a properly exposed image in the autumn, I have my fingers crossed and I am enjoying making my garden more bird friendly my planting for more natural shots.

Hi Billy. They are one of the most beautiful finches we have . You captured a good pictures of this one. with good detail and colours. I like the typical pose with its head turned to one side. well done TFS
Nick. I have done a workshop i hope you don't mind.

Beautiful coloring here and I love the subtle lighting. Excellent BG because it really brings attention to this Goldfinch. Also, your notes are helpful - I, too, am waiting on the perfect goldfinch shot!

Nicely done.

:-)

hello Billy

excellent photo of the Goldfinch, with fine frontal POV,
i also love the framing even if the bird is on the middle,
superb focus with great sharpness and details,
i also love to see details of the blurred background,
and the catch-light & the pose render the photo more beautiful,

TFS

Depth of filed and enhanced colours in the subject make an adjective....great!
