Hoverfly Macro

| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
Another test with a borrowed 50mm macro lens!
I *think* this is Eupeodes Corollae, a very common hoverfly in southern and Central England and Wales, less so in Nothern England and Scotland, but still widespread.
Distribution: One of the commonest flower-visiting species throughout Britain, and believed to be boosted in abundance, at least in some years, by migration from the continent
Biology: Larvae feed on aphids on various low growing plants, especially Leguminosae. Adults highly mobile and may be found at flowers in all sorts of fairly open situations from woodland clearings to arable farmland and urban areas. Visits a wide range of flowers and commonly occurs in parks and gardens. This species overwinters as a puparium and has a very long flight period.

Conditions: Very sunny, late afternoon

Hi Andy
Very good macro work you have here!
I love the details from your photo - crispy clear. Also the lovely colors and the great warm light make out a very beautiful composition. The framing is excellent and the golden reflections on the wings are the cherry on the top of the cake :)
Bravo and TFS

Hi Andy,
This is a great macroshot!! I have shot hundreds and hundreds of photos with our Sigma macro lens and I never get results like this. I think the lens is faulty and I regret not letting you try our lens on September the 1st. :( Anyway, back to your photo. It's really good and I like the saturated colors and the warm lightening. I bet this was taken in the later afternoon, am I right? The composition and the background are very pleasing. TFS!
Regards,
Pieter

Lovely shot. The colours are really warm, great textures and amazing details on the hoverfly. The light is wonderful. The light on the wings is especially nice

It is most likely a E. corollae, although they tend to have a bit more whitish lunules. In Eupeodes luniger, however, those lunules are yellowish but stop short of the sides, which is surely not the case here.
I do like your BG, being used to seeing hoverflies feeding on flowers or resting on green leaves...
