[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Russia's Prime Minister announced that Russia will build the world’s longest oil pipeline (4100 kilometres) to transport oil from central Siberian fields to the Sea of Japan. The pipeline will be Russia's largest project to-date with total investments estimated at between 11 and 17 billion $US.
Environmentalists were shocked by the location chosen for the pipeline terminal: the Amur Bay in Russia's biodiversity 'hotspot', Southwest Primorye, home to the remaining population of Amur leopards. Selection of this route will almost certainly result in the extinction of the Amur leopard.
Field survey data estimates that there are fewer than 50 leopards left in the wild, making the Amur leopard one of the world's most endangered cat taxa. There are approximately 200 Amur leopards in captivity, mostly in zoos in North America and throughout Europe.
The pipeline has been started but at the moment has been suspended due to environmental pressures. They are trying to get the route changed to have a less harmful impact.

Male Amur leopards weigh between 32-48 kg, with exceptionally large males up to 60-75 kg. Females are smaller than the males weighing between 25-43 kg.

The main prey species of the Amur leopard are roe and sika deer along with hares and badgers.

This one was photographed at Marwell Zoological Park, Hampshire, England. The tight crop is to get rid of some reflections as this was shot through glass.

Superb shot Michael!
Photo has perfect quality, the fur looks amazingly natural and soft.
The framing is a bit tight, but on the other hand it create "cosy" mood perfect for a photo of sleeping kitten.
I like it very much.

Michael, thanks for the news about the decision of the Russian government. It's really a shame they don't care about the animals - just like it is all around.

As for your your shot, it's an excellent one.

Excellent pov and composition. He really seemed to be sleeping sound.

A cute shot - and he can't even imagine what may happen to him.

I started work again today and have a limited amount of time to critique. I like this photo a lot. Well done.

The tight crop is not a problem for me.

Hi Michael, nice shot of Akin, all very clear and detailed. Tip for shooting through that glass...if you're shooting handheld wear a dark shirt/coat and use your body to try to minimise the reflections, also try to get the end of the lens as close to the glass as is possible. Even with a tripod I'll try to get the lens up against the glass for the shot.

What an absolutely gorgeous leopard, Michael. I hope that the environmentalists will be able to save his habitat.
You caught this big cat in a wonderfully peaceful pose.
He seems to not have a care in the world.
