Amur Tiger (Panthera tigris altaica )

Head, body, tail and limbs have a series of narrow, black, grey or brown stripes. On the sides the stripes are vertical. Prominent white spots on the ears are used for communication.

The Amur tiger is the largest of all the cats. A male Amur tiger can weigh up to 300kgs. Other tiger races are smaller.

Distribution: N. Korea, N.E. China and eastern U.S.S.R

Sexually mature: 3 - 4

Life span: 20

This one is Zambar who is about ten months old, he was rejected by his mother but is now doing fine with his father, Gamin.

I just love the expression on this tiger's face...it is very wistful and certainly not one of an animal that is one of great strenght. I want to scratch it's head like a big fluffy dog! Definitely a special moment. I also like the way the light is on one side, but you have managed to still get detail on the shaded side of the face. Did you use fill flash?

Well, he doesnt seem to have a worry in the world and looks lazy (like I would be while basking in the sun).

The image is clear. Even though the sun was your enemy here, you got good detail in the shade, whil retaining good exposure in the sun.
