Ringed Teal (Callonetta leucophrys )

The male has a pink breast with black spots. The top of his head and the back of his neck are black. The female is paler, with dark brown back and wings, and irregular brown spots on her breast. Both have a characteristic white oval wing mark, which is hidden at rest.

Description
Ringed teals are members of the wood duck group. They are found in swampy tropical forests and marshy clearings in well-wooded lowlands. They can also be found in secluded pools and small streams. All wood ducks have strong, pointed claws so that they can perch on trees. The ringed teal eats seeds and other small items. They forage by picking from the water surface and by head dipping while swimming in shallow water. The ringed teal nests in tree hollows or they sometimes take over the old stick nests of other birds. The young have sharp claws on their feet and rather stiff tails; both used for climbing out of tree holes after hatching. The male and female calls differ; the male has a soft long whistle, the female a short, harsh quack.

A real text book image this Michael the detail in the feathers is amazing,
I think inspite of the BG being totally OOF that for printing this image I would be tempted to clone out the Half duck on the left, but this is a very minnor point. Nice one TFS

Calender stuff Michael. Excellent DOF and POV. Good work

Very beautiful duck Michael.

Very colourful , good details and nice pose.
Good informative note.
Very well done.

I like the detail of the texture of the bird. Very sharp.

Very nice indeed! Yes the detail and colour is amazing. Maybe cut a little to close to the feet but very good post.

Very nice, maybe just a tad soft on focus? I'd be tempted to try a little more USM. Aren't his colors gorgeous! -Jenn

Super ! Bonne définition des couleurs et les détails sont nettes. Vraiment bien. FÉLICITATIONS !

Good shot Michael. Great color & you've done a good job with the BG removing the unwanted distraction. Great notes. TFS

Michael, lovely shot with very beautiful colors. Great POV, DOF and sharpness. The blurred BG works well too.

Lívio

Great shot with lots of detail. As Rob says a text book image. The only poor point is the the OOF duck in th eleft background, which you could easily clone out. A minor detail though, excellent image and presentation.
