Went up to the forest for a couple of hours . I was pleased to get this picture of the Redstart as i have not seen one before .I also think i have a picture of a young one which i will post soon.

Redstart ( Phoenicurus phoenicurus ) Length 14cm.
This is an attractive Robin sized Bird, the Males are particularly striking.
The Redstart has a distinctive dark-centred red tail that is pumped up and down when the Bird perches.
The Adult Male has a grey back, nape and crown, a black face and throat and orange underparts that are most colourful on the breast. They have a white forehead and the legs and bill are dark.
The Adult Female has grey-brown upperparts and head and an orange wash to the rather pale underparts.
The Redstart is a Bird of open woodland. Sessile Oak is a particular favourite. This migrant visitor is most numerous in Wales, the Southwest and the North of England and in Scotland around 100,000 pairs may breed.
The species is very rare in Ireland.
It nests in holes usually in gnarled trees but occasionally in stone walls.
The Redstarts are easiest to see on breeding territory.
Redstarts are sometimes seen on migration as well usually around the coast, they are easier to find in spring then in winter.

Nice pose, I really like the little grub stashed for later. Your usual high standard on all aspects with a bird I have not seen myself.
Top work.

Junior

Hi Nick,

You are introducing me to another bird - thank you! He is not camera shy and is posing so nicely for you with his mouthful while giving you the eye. He is a fine looking bird with that wonderful face and plummage. Beautiful colors and details. I keep scrolling back to the picture - love that look on his face.

Bellissima 1^ cattura di codirosso, splendida composizione con il codirosso in posa "orgoglioso" dell'insetto, molto buona la nitidezza, belli i colori e magnifico BG. Grazie e complimenti. Ciao Maurizio

Is this one plucking his own feathers or is it building some nest or adding to it? How interesting...it doesn't look like food..but I am not sure...Very nicely done Nick!
