I know i have posted many Robins in the past but i was able to take a picture of this one and felt it was worth showing as he looks so tired and worn out . He kept coming back for food and must have had young near by , this shows how much a bird can wear themselves out trying to bring up a nest full of hungry young, and this being the first of at least two broads.

Robin ( Erithacus rubecula ) Length 14cm.
The Robin is one of the most familiar and popular garden Birds of all. The Robin is an aggressive species with the males sometimes fighting to the death to defend their territory.
The male and female are almost identical with brown crown, wings, upperparts and tail, a grey band along the sides of the breast, white belly and the famous red breast which is actually a deep orange colour. Juvenile Birds can cause confusion as they lack red in their plumage, being a rather dull spotty brown in colour.
Robins sing all year round, defending summer and winter territories with their fluty melodic song.
The Robin can be found in almost every garden as it is one of the tamest Birds, happily feeding alongside humans as they work. They will often take live food such as Earthworms or Mealworms from the hand.
Breeds from March to August building a cup shaped nest from grass and leaves lined with hair. Lays 4-6 pale blue-white eggs lightly spotted with red and incubates for 13-15 days. The young fledge after 12-14 days. They often have two broods

Hi Nick,

It's rough having one baby - can you imagine what it's like caring for multiples? He may be tired -I remember those days too - but he is still beautiful. Wonderful pose, colors, details and lighting. I'd love to see the babies!

Jane

Hello Nick
This picture is more than worth a show as it shows nature truthfully..The poor parents this time of year take a real battering bringing up thier young and its correct to show the hardship they go through..To me it is nature photography to show both sides be they pristine birds or birds that are having a tough time.
This poor Robin does look a little the worse for wear and you have perfectly captured the hardship and selflessness perfectly.
Great Work
Paul

Hi Nick

Lovely shot of the Robin, he does look a bit threadbare, no time to preen when you have hungry mouths.
He is still lovely though and its a great pose.
Nice colours and light too.

Hello Nick,
A superb portait of a worn-out Robin, both technically and esthetically. You raise a good point with this shot: at this time of the year in the Northern Hemisphere we rarely take pictures of birds in prime condition as they all are worn out with their nesting duties.
Thanks for sharing this interesting and fine shot,
Ivan

Hi Nick,
A lovely capture of this beautiful robin. Although looks a bit worn out to me. But it is equally beautiful. Excellent composition and sharp details. Thanks a lot for sharing.

Hello Nicholas,

I think you may well see her busy life to the damaged feathers. The colors and expression are wonderful. Here pose is really an Robin. POV, DOF and BG are oké. Very nice frame

Thansk for sharing. regards and TFS BOB

Some folks can post images of birds 24/7 and still come out looking like a red rose in summer...Very sharp...so small and delicate...and their lives fragile3....here one day gone the next.....nicely posted Nick!

Hahaha! Have you been tiring those birds by telling them to strike a pose too much or something? First the scraggy Blue Tit, I found, and now the scraggy Robin... maybe there'll be a sraggy Nuthatch next :-)
Really nice shot of this worn-out Robin :-D
Excellent colours and warm light.
Superb DOF and BG.
Great composition.

Well done, Nick!

You make me think, Nicholas, that those birds have a lot of work feeding the chicks and that they truly get tired. It never ever occurred to me that they could get tired! This beautiful cute bird looks tired, you are right, and I'm very happy you help him out feeding him. The picture is superb, as usual, so beautiful. Thank you,

Francine
