One of my favourite birds and in my opinion very under rated.
Very natural pose and good colourings..perhaps a touch to much sharpening?...A nice sharp lense tho it has to be said the 400 f 5.6.

Hi Nick,

I agree with you - her pose is lovely. The colors are wonderful with beautiful shadings especially on the face. She seems to be glowing. Very sharp details of the face and plummage. I love the beak and the eye line. A lovely composition on the slightly diagonal branch. Nice to see a blue sky there.

Correctly I should congrat you on this fine photo first, but my mind wanders back into the fog we shared for a while and as I sit here at 5:45 pacific Coast PM time...still foggy but a bit of rain and it had better change or I'm going to book a cruise....I might have to ask James to take me with him...

I am happy you are out in the sunny weather and doing what yo do so best Nick...I have food out in the feeder, but our birds are gone...not sure what is up but as I mentioned to another...I suspect they feel some changes in the geomag field...mostly birds do that aka Homing pigeons...

I like wonderful colours of the BG, excellent sharpness and details of the bird and tree branch and, of course, great POV and composition of the image. Well composed with a great POV Nicholas.
Great detail and I like the warm color. Also like the BG and that patch of blue to the right of the bird..Looks slightly over-sharp on my monitor, my only nit.

Professional quality photography here Nick, you should start thinking abot doing something with them all really...maybe a book or field guide of the birds of Dorset of some kind...anyway, very impressive, well done mate.

A superb close portrait of a female Chaffinch, the ambient ligt being great to illuminate the chaffinch so well and create a wonderful down-toned BG. The Compoasition on the branch, head-turned pose and catchlight in the eye are superb as is the sharpness.

Hi Nick,
mighty fine looking capture of this little girl,she is a lovely looking bird.I am a big fan of what I affectionately nicked named "blukkies" ,the birds in other words.Birds brighten up our world for their very beauty and songs.They are very beneficial to the trees they live as they eat insect pests and help keep the trees from destruction.Any photo that shows our fine feathered friends as well as this capture does really honors them and that is what I try to do as well.A fine photo with great colour,a lovely catch light in it's eye all with with a sharp focus,nothing wrong here.Thanks for sharing this little "blukkie" with us all. Hi Nick,

Great pose so here head turned to the left. Here eyecontact is now perfect. Very good detail and warm colors. I'm agree with the words of billynewboy: perhaps a touch to much sharpening? Of course, further its still an excellent photo.

I already spotted the background thumbnail-wise as its bokeh is beautiful, also in terms of colours.
I agree with you, the pose is nice. Plus there's the little catchlight in the eye; the icing on the cake!
