This one was also taken last Sunday in dull weather .

Robin ( Erithacus rubecula ) Length 14cm.
The Robin is one of the most familiar and popular garden Birds of all. The Robin is an aggressive species with the males sometimes fighting to the death to defend their territory.
The male and female are almost identical with brown crown, wings, upperparts and tail, a grey band along the sides of the breast, white belly and the famous red breast which is actually a deep orange colour. Juvenile Birds can cause confusion as they lack red in their plumage, being a rather dull spotty brown in colour.
Robins sing all year round, defending summer and winter territories with their fluty melodic song.
The Robin can be found in almost every garden as it is one of the tamest Birds, happily feeding alongside humans as they work. They will often take live food such as Earthworms or Mealworms from the hand.
Breeds from March to August building a cup shaped nest from grass and leaves lined with hair. Lays 4-6 pale blue-white eggs lightly spotted with red and incubates for 13-15 days. The young fledge after 12-14 days. They often have two broods

Hi Nick,

The weather may have been dull but a Robin is never dull. Nothing is more cheerful than their beautiful flowers. I love that little face with the big eye. Face, plummage and feathers are excellent. Beautiful pose on the angled branch. The matching orange of the tree is a marvelous touch. Superb background and composition.

Nice to see you are still shooting even in such a weather :)
This is actually a splendid shot! That impressive lens made sure you'd have excellent light conditions and superb sharpness all across the robin here. When did you buy it?
Anyway, gorgeous colors and excellent DOF, too.

Hi Nicholas,
wonderful capture for lovely robin, with excellent sharp details of focus. Coloration, BG and composition also great. I also added it to Special Theme, since this is one of my favourite birds. Thanks for sharing, have a nice weekend
Ahmet

I saw your note to Maury....and was mentioning to him how oft4en you do this particular Robin....Although many are surprised at the size of ours...I have seen them since a child...and so being a fan more of the smaller birds, my tendency is to much more appreciate the European model. Of course you know this is one of you foremost top drawer shots!

Hola Nicholas, la evisente saturación del color no impide que la toma sea igualmente bella. Buena luz y texturas de las ramas que son o se asemejan a las del cerezo.
Saludos: Josep Ignasi.

Hi Nick,

Again one of your favorites. But it is still a beautiful bird. You shoot again a beautiful photo of this little feller. I like the diagonal pose on the branche. Colors are very natural. Razorsharp as usual. I see your self in the eye. Perfect eyecontact !

Hi Nick,

About the your dull weather, I thinks you have a quite good settings, I have not been out for at least 2 weeks because of the bad light.

Hi Nick,
that's amazing, I'm jealous of this perfect shot ;-) And of the motive!
I also have a robin here around, but too shy to let me make a shot of him - what a pity!
So thanks for your wonderful one, bye

Hello Nicholas,

Great photo.
Beautiful colours with fantastic definition.
Light and composition are splendid.
Good notes.

Hi Nick,
A great photo of this very pretty bird. I can't remember of wich BBC program I saw it, but it seems that due to the street lights some Robins are waking up too early.
I like the dark BG making the colors of the Robin even more present. The details in its feathers are awesome and so is the clean composition.
TFS,
Niek

Hi Nicholas,
You´re the king of robins in TN, there are many of your pics about this beautiful bird, but this one looks like me lovely, with a simple and nice composition, with good focus and sharpness. a good job indeed
