Most Birds can be recognised by a yellowish conical bill, black bid and a red patch on their forecrown. The latter of which is absent in some Juvenile Birds.

As a breeding species it occurs locally throughout much of England and Ireland.
In winter it is much more widespread.

Hi Nick,
this a superb looking shot of that colourful redpoll with nicely saturated colour and a good sharp focus.I haven't seen many of these little birds recently so this photo shows well what I can look forward to when they return to the area I live in.The like the background as it give a very contrast to the subject and it is not in the least bit distracting.A fine photo and thank you kind sir for sharing with us all. Bob

Hi Nick,
I love those small birds - and this one has such wonderful red feathers at the time. I only had them in my garden 1 year in a very strong winter, they never came back, so sad ;-(

Hi Nick,
Fastastic close-up of this beautiful redpoll and with such clarity.
So what's your trick to getting so close to these very skittish little passerines? I know you are using a 400mm but even that is close enough to still make them fleet. Blind? Teleconverter?
Paul :)

Hello Nick,
You came up with a nice one from your archives here!
A great portrait of a male Redpoll in Spring finery. The POV, colours, lighting, composition an BG all are at least uop to your high standard, which makes it a fine portrait of this species.
Thanks and have a good week,
Ivan

Siempre me asaltan dudas al ver tus fotografías:
como puede encontrar tantos pájaros? como consigue captarlos de manera tan maravillosa?. Sea como fuere, un placer seguir admirando tus trabajos.
Buena semana Nicholas: J. Ignasi.
