Danish Scurvygrass "Cochleareia Danica" This is an updated image from a previous upload to a plant I was having difficulty identifying. I have been advised by some Botanists that this is a Danish Scurvygrass.

This is the earliest flowering Scurvygrass being an annual/bi-annual, short (20cm) and prostrate. The flowers are approx 4-5mm across. The stem like leaves are stalked and look like ivy leaves. The seed pods being egg shaped.

What is unusual about this scurvygrass that although it is a coastal plant, it has been found spreading rapidly along centre reservations of two track inland roads.

It appears because these plants have a high salt tolerance, they have been able to colonise areas restricted from other plant species and have become a "succession" plant. The winter practice of salting roads in Britain, has given them this other habitat away from the sea.

This image is intended more as a Botanical Information Image, and therefore, the intention was to capture the details of florets, stamens and fleshy leaf.

ISO 100
Shutter 1/320
f/18
Manual focus, tripod, mirror lock and remote shutter used, flash fill used but restricted to shutter 1/320 before the old flash gun died! Good light conditions but problems with traffic.

Hi Howard,
! Interesting to hear how it's found it's niche where others have failed too.
Anyway, lovely black BG from a good job on the exposure, some detail and an interesting post all round really. Those leaves really are thick!
Paul
