Excellent shot Alan, the details show up nice with fatastic colors. I have no idea what it is, best guess would be (Loxodonta africana) but I think those are much bigger. :)

An excellent capture.
It looks like a Sawfly to me but species of these can be difficult to ID.
Excellent detail and POV,nice clear background and great colours.

This is indeed a sawfly (symphyta), most probably Arge ochropus.

It looks like a Sawfly to me - order Hymenoptera, sub-order Symphyta. Which actual species is anybody's quess :)

Hi Alan, nice macro. Excellent lighting, detail and composition. Sorry can't help with the I.D., I posted one recently called U.F.O, I don't know whether I just wasn't really paying attention last year or whether there are definitely some unusual insects in the UK this year. I've already seen this one during my macro walks, but i couldn't put a name on it. The insect is not so spectacular but you did a great job with it, i think the composition is excellent. Congrats !

Heh, when I was a kid, our generic name for this long type of winged insect was a 'blood sucker'! Sorry, I can't be any more helpful :)
As for the photo, very very nice, lovely plain blurred background and super composition. If I was being really picky I'd say that the tip of the grass is out of focus but that's being a bit harsh!
