I don't think there's such a thing as an unfriendly Robin - they are certainly among Britain's tamest birds. I was about 2 metres away from this one with a huge lens pointing at it and it just carried on singing....
Taken at the edge of Marsworth Reservoir, Tring.

Conditions...Late afternoon, handheld.
PP: RAW conversion, Crop, USM, add frame.

Status:
Widespread and common species. Included in the Birds of Conservation Concern Green List (low conservation concern).

Description:
The Robin is undoubtedly one of Britain's most dearly loved birds. It is instantly recognisable due to the rusty-red breast; indeed, 'Robin redbreast' and simply 'redbreast' are well-known alternative names. The sexes are very similar, but juveniles lack the red breast and are mottled with browns and buffs. The robin is one of the few birds to sing throughout the winter; its melodious, liquid song is a further feature that has endeared this species to the public. A short 'tick' call is also produced.

Range:
Widely distributed throughout Britain, with the exception of islands and the higher hills of Scotland. It also occurs throughout much of Europe, reaching as far east as central Siberia, as well as parts of North Africa and Turkey.

Habitat:
Occurs in a range of habitats, but typically requires the presence of both dense vegetation and open areas. It breeds in woodlands, gardens, forest edges, parks, and even city centres.

"I don't think there's such a thing as an unfriendly Robin" Hmm, reading that I really begin to think our robins must be a totally different species ;) These are one of the most shy birds in our forests! I can't imagine seeing one from such short distance.
Anyway, it's a great shot with nice quality and some good details.

I told you this picture was great in an e-mail and I am glad you decided to put it on TN. It's sharp and the colors are good. I see some background noise, but it's not annoying. Well done & TFS! Now show us some 20D pictures! :) Well done & TFS!
