Red Clover, Trifolium pratense. (member of pea family)

Commonest of the pink/pink purple clovers, erect short to medium perennial. Flowers pink/purple, never red!!

Native form prefers ground not too limey, and natural grassland. (pratense is Latin for "found in meadow")

Cultivated form, taller, more luxuriant and with paler flowers.

It is widely grown as an animal feed or fodder crop, Also valued for its nitrogen fixation which increases soil fertility.

Naturally occurring non steroidal plant compounds from Red Clover (isoflavones and phytoestrogens) have been used to treat the symptoms of menopause. Women who are pregnant and breastfeeding should avoid ingesting Red Clover.

This image was taken last October just before the first
frost of winter. This one was on a South facing bank and sheltered from the wind.

Excellent picture of this clover.

The limited DOF actually gives the picture an interesting air.

TFS!

Ishi

Hello Howard
a lovely macro showing lovely deep colours...perhaps an fstop or more would have taken you down to the centre of the clover but still retains the deep mysterious edges to the petal you have already..
Cracking shot and tfs

Hej Howard,
This is a beautiful portrait of a Red Clover flower with good use of the low aperture to get max sharpness and I like the slightly off-centre composition here.
Thanks for sharing this beauty,
Hälsningar,
Ivan
