Woody Nightshade, Solanum dulcamara, these are the "berries" of what Charles Darwin once described as "one of the feeblest and poorest of twiners":-"twining indifferently to the right and left"......

The flowers are bright purple with a yellow anthers, (similar to the flower of the potato. S tuberosum)

The fruit originally green turns yellow and finally this red colour.

original image taken late one evening as the sun was setting, poor(ish) light, but clear.

ISO 200,
Shutter speed 1.25,
f/10
no tripod, camera rested on bag...

Minor PP work sharpening and cropped to size etc...

Hi Howard, very great idea.this is one of the little colours that we can see in nature in winter, excellent shaprness. Thanks for share,Luciano

Super image Howard..nothing to talk about except its qualities of emotion which one might not expect from an image such as this...I can tell much from a picture on how a person feels...and sometimes even their tastes in food:-) A strange way to go about life for me...empathetic I reckon it is called..and well do I know it...this picture brings out much...and is done so well..from a person who passionately cares for what he does...please be aware that I know you are a man with a good heart for nature and you know how well to share it with others...

Hi Howard,
I'm glad you keep posting! Your photos are amongst the better average. (I consider myself in this "cathegory" also). Your flowers are beautiful, just lacking a bit of sharpness sometimes, but it depends on the monitor screen I use...
Good textures of the fruit. The dull backgground is not very flattering. Maybee you could photograph it again with a warm sunset light.

Hi Howard,

I see these around a lot but haven't yet seen a grouping that I liked for a picture. I do like this one though, and you have composed the shot exceptionally well. Perhaps a darker background or perhaps using a sheet of white paper to reflect more light onto the front of berries, might have helped illuminate them a little more, but that splitting hairs really. Nice shot.

Hello Howard

A very good close up of this Woody Nightshade.
We have a similar berry here called Bittersweet Nightshade.
The details are very good and you can see the effects of the cooler weather on the berries.
Excellent POV and DOF.
