Field Mouse-ear! Cerastium arvenese

Member of the Pink family. The Mouse-ears are generally annuals/perennials with five petals, although in certain species the petals are notched. Can grow up to 30cm tall but can also be mat forming. Narrow lanceolate leaves up to 4cm long.

This particular species has deeply divided petals, and prominent anthers. The fruits are cylindrical in shape.

They grow on footpaths, dried grassland, calcareous soils and are mostly found in the East of Britain. Flowering April to August.

The light was good, but I used flash (heavily diffused) underneath the flower to try to highlight the sepals and give them a different perspective.
