This Red Crested Pochard has been posted by myself as an inflight...He has also been posted by nglen..joey..and necipp...all in varying angles and points of view!!

My last post was of what I believed to be a juvenile Greenfinch...It was in fact a male that unfortuantely was unwell..I picked him up at dusk as there are cats that patrol my garden after dark which is a direct result of my caring for the nature that visits my garden...I have placed my feeders high but a bird on the ground is very vulnerable...
I made a nest for him from a biscuit tin lined with tissue paper that had food and water but at 4am when I checked on him for a possible release at dawn he had passed away.

I am so behind on crits that I apologise to all..I am catching up and will get round to everyone soon.

Thanks for looking

Hi Paul

Wonderful close up capture of the Red Crested Pochard
Excellent composition and a great POV, nice frontal pose with the head slightly turned to one side.
Nice sharp details
Beautiful natural colours and lovely light.
I wonder if any other animals have been shot by as many members.
Sorry to hear about your little Greenfinch.

Hi Paul,

This must be the best shot of the this famous bird. All have been very good but I this one has the best pose so far. Everything just perfect, it seems that he now knows and is glowing more than ever.

Hi Paul

Great close-up from a good, low POV. Wonderful detail and colour also.

James

Yes, I remember him! This lovely Pochard is a star on TN. Nice to see him from the face. He seems to pose for you!
I'm sorry for the little Greenfinch. That's nature. Sometimes we can save one, sometimes not. We just try as we can...
Best regards,
Catherine

Wow! I love the sharpness of this Red Crested Pochard. The details are fabulous, and even better, he seems to be floating right to me out of my screen. You know, I don't recall seeing this bird, so now I'm going to have to go look for them! There are so many wonderful photos here that it is difficult to spot them all, and like you, I'm behind on critiques. Overall, this belongs on the front of a magazine - it's that superb.

Hi Paul,

How could we forget this marvelous Pochard. What a sad story you had to tell - you did all you could. The colors are exquisite. The details are sharp and crisp. Beautiful face, beak, eye and plummage. You have to fall in love with these.

Hi Paul,

Another great image of this TN celebrity, I think it's pretty funny that the same bird is appearing multiple times from different photographers :-) Great detail and colour, whites are a little hot on the flank but other than that he looks great.

A shame about the Greenfinch but at least you gave the little guy a fair chance.

Regards,
Adrian

hello Paul

beautifull shot of this Red Crested Pochard, fine POV and vertical framing,
but i would give a little more space to see more of the reflexion on water,

Hello Paul, this is a superb shot of a popular duckie! The BigMa is a superb lens, this shot is beautiful with details, superb colours and the great sharpness. What a beautiful bird, a real nice capture once more. And poor little bird dying, how sad we feel when it happens like this. You did well to take care of its last moments. Thank you Paul!

Round round I get around....hmmmm Beach Boys....very nice. I would have not known you all had a chance at it had you not suggested..or said...but still each is fine in it's own way as is this one...You "guys" all have such nice gear..and then to be able to exchange ideas about how it was done or should be done standing close by...dang...that is camaraderie!

This little Pochard must be famous by now! :-)
A really great capture of this lonely fellow.
Superb sharpness highlighting every litle detail in the feathers.
Brilliant low-down almost water-level POV and a pleasing composition.
Perfect light and natural colours.
Sorry to hear about the poor Greenfinch :-( It would definately have prefered to pass away in a lovely warm soft biscuit tin than the cold wet grass with cats prowling nearby so you did the best thing you could have done.

Very well done, Paul!

Joe

What an interesting little red eye he(she?) has! Paul, this is a wonderful shot with perfect detail of the soft feathers, good composition, dof. I like the reflection in the water too. It seems to be posing for you!

So sad to hear about the greenfinch...that's heartbreaking. Thanks for looking out for him. Better he died peacefully in your care than in the clutches of a cat!

Hello Paul,

I'm so sad that the little bird didn't survive! You did your best and that is what is important!

This beautiful duck is going to get a personality complex! He's so famous!

He does look very regal! Lovely detailed and sharp image showing the smooth details of his plummage and the bright colours of his features.

Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hi Paul

Oh yeas...this one is definitely famous then :))
A very beautiful close-up, my friend!
The details here are very good and the overall sharpness on the plumage is excellent. Also, the colors are great and the natural light is lovely.
But probably most of all i like the superb pose you've captured him in here - with his head turned and looking straight to you. Wonderful!

Bravo and TFS
Horia

Hi Paul,
Excellent POV on the pochard, the angle really shows this water foul off nicely, the warm colors it displays are beautiful. TFS
