Wheat-stem Borer, ...Cephus pygmaeus, Family..Cephidae

Tiny wasp, about 7mm long, but can grow to about 10mm.

This is one of several slender cylindrical sawflies. They have 2-5 yellowish bands around the abdomen, and yellow legs. They are abundant in spring.early summer, the larvae causing considerable damage to cereal crops. The adults are common on flowers such as butterecups and other composite flowers.

This pair(in a sort of insect embrace) were caught on a buttercup flower.

ISO 100, F/8, 1/160. very soft diffused light used.

Tripod, remote shutter release and mirror locked.

Only PP was to zoom to 50%, mild sharpen and cropping to size.

Hi Howard. Looks like they are in the flower. Yur picture shows them all covered with pollen. good detail and colours. well done TFS.
