Dog rose, Rosa canina, The "English" unofficial rose. Commonest and most abundant of wild roses. The roses are a large family, including trees and shrubs. The flowers are variable in sizes and colouration, but all carry five petals and sepals, with numerous yellow stamens.

The leaves are alternate, the fruits either dry achenes or fleshy drupes.

These flowers are widespread but are more common Southern Britain. This species can grow to about 3-4 metre, rambling and spindly. The stems carry sharp thorns/prickles. The flowers are fragrant, delicate and soft coloured between 30 and 60mm across. The flowers in greater shade can become quite deep pink and red tinged.

This image was taken at late afternoon bright sunny day, the plant was in shade but well formed and "clean"

ISO 100
shutter 1/25
f/18

Tripod, mirror lock, macro ring light(auto) remote shutter release. Manual focus, manual settings.

This was shot in RAW, PP work was minimal. Just sharpening after sizing - no cropping.

I do believe we have some such as this...but ours not nearly as perfect in a natural way. Very nice Howard...what sort of monitor do you use? I am wondering if you are using a LCD monitor...just an aside as I have heard stories from others which match my own notions of editing images..

Hi Howard.
Refined work and amazing picture. I like how well you have reflected tiniest and fine details of the flower/ I like very soft lighting and delicate colours of the image, nice darkness and blurriness of the BG. You have created a true art picture. Thanks and kind regards.
