Well fed gulls make for a large population on the waterfront at Deal. The ubiquitous chip shops and snack stalls serve as a happy hunting ground...great for taking photos.

PP = sharpened and slight increase in contrast.

Hello Mike.
Nice photo to start in TN. I like how you managed nice transparecies with the backlight, but still very nice details in the shady areas. I like the composition and presentation too.
Be careful, when saving to jpg, adjust compresion quality to fit just bellow the 200 Kb. allowed in TN, this will avoid compresion artifacts specialy with this kind of BGs.
My welcome to TN, hope you enjoy the site.
Regards, Felipe.
The lighting is very good here and the blue sky complements the while bird very well. The diagonal position of the wings is a plus sign here

Hello Mike,
A warm welcome to Treknature.
What a beautiful in flight capture to start of with.
Composition, sharoness and lighting, wich is'nt easy with all those lighter feathers of the gull, are excellent and due to that feather details are wonderful.
Lovely backlighting and blue sky against wich the bird does stand out greatly.
Excellent work and I really hope to see more of these beautiful images from you in the near future.
Personally I'm not that fond of the darker blue frame you did place aroud the image because it does attract the eye to much.
Would like to have seen someting in B&W, but that's just my opinion ofcourse.
Wonderful image anyway.
Thanks for sharing.
Best regards and have a nice Sunday evening,
Harry

Hi Mike. a very warm welcome to TN. A fine shot for your first posting. a good in flight shot of the Gull. good colours and detail . you have made good use of the bright light. very well done TFS.
Nick..
Will look foward to some more from you.
This is well taken Mike - perfect exposure on the bird, which can't have been easy consudering it's backlit. I like how the light shines through the wings, and the shot has a simplicity to it that appeals to me.
The edges of the bird's wings look a bit over-sharpened, but other than that this is excellent.
Not too keen on the frame though - I think a plain white one or no frame at all would have worked better.
Cheers,
Ben
