Hello Everyone,

Today my posting is of a young sparrow. He had landed on the path and although he had watched his parents feeding, he wasn't quite sure what to do with this seed.

Growing up can be so difficult!

For a long time feeding depends solely on parents. It is a cosy reliable existence, takes little energy but provides a lot of security! Then comes the crunch! They have to begin doing things for themselves. Some nestlings quickly emulate their parents whilst others flutter and fluff demanding food when they are clearly as big as the parents and able to fend for themselves.

I wasn't quite sure which category this little chappie fell into as he was disturbed and flew away without showing what he was going to do about the seed!

Many thanks for your visit.
Please feel free to offer me feedback on any aspect of the shot!
Bev :-)

She / he looks so cute Bev. I love these little fellows, and the young ones do grow quickly. And they have to learn quickly too about what it's like in the outside world. They certainly learn how to feed at the cafes around here!
Nice shot, details are clear, and the catch-light in the eye is perfect,
Janice

Hi Bev,

The poor little thing! For the last few weeks I have been watching parents feeding their baby sparrows one seed at a time. I guess this unlucky one has impatient parents. A wonderful title and a you caught this baby in a lovely pose with a forlorn expression on her face. Nice colors and details. I guess even birds can't pick who their moms and dads will be.

Hi Beverley,

Wonderful shot of this little house sparrow starting its journey though life, so much to learn and so little time, beautiful detail in the plumage, lovely eye catch, really nice work, all the best.

Cheers Rick :)

I have no idea of what it is to be a young bird growing up, but as a young man and looking back...i reckon it was one long and hard lesson...but us humans have longer life spans....we hope...as your birds hope is not a part of it's beauty...simply it's youth to hold dear and close...

hello Beverley

beautiful image of this young sparrow, with fine POV, DOF
and framing, excellent sharpness and details of the plumage
and that catch-light at the eye it changes alot the image
by improving it, imagine this photo without the catch-light
at the eye, the photo it wont be as beautiful,

Hi Bev

The expression concerning a "Bird Brain" is such a misnomer, because these little creatures have so much to learn as everything they know doesn’t just come as instinct. Actually a bird brain has probably more between the ears than these people who continuously rape and wantonly destroy our wonderful planet. It seems that even as this little guy still didn't learn all about eating seeds, so too it didn't yet learn to be fright(flight)full of approaching humans.

I like the approximate panorama type of dimensions you cropped the composition as it seems to really fit birding photography. Since I read about someone applying this to all her birding photos, I started taking note of it and I must say it really seems to be working especially for the smaller passerine or songbirds. Maybe the colour tones are slightly on the yellow side, which could be attributed to either post processing or the white balance adjustment on the camera. I find that on my Canon 350D this is what normally happens when I select the "sunny" setting for the WB. "Cloudy" seems to be giving better results during any daylight situation.

Anyway, well done and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Hi Beverley.
You have pictured a young sparrow very well. So natural scene and nice reproduction of all details of the bird. Even simple surroundings are suitable for this character. My best regards and TFS.

Hello Bed,
Very nice capture of this little House Sparrow in a fine pose in the sunshine. I like the yellow still showing on its beak and the catchlight in its eye. Fine sharp details and natural colours. We've had a family of these in the garden, they're lovely to watch!
TFS and best wishes, Ulla

A fine detailed shot Bev, good pose and the light was nice. Best Rgds Necip
