Hello Everyone,

Today I am posting buds. We almost always post flowers so I am about to have a change. I saw these buds, waiting to become flowers, and was so attracted by their proud appearance that I decided to capture them instead.

I am sure you have all recognised them by now. They are, of course, elderberry buds.

I have used the ripe elderberries for making jam and jelly. The fruits are free and widely available.
Here is some information from 'downthelane':
The Elderberry
A lot of people overlook this fruit thinking it's for wine making only and this is born out by it once being called the Englishman's Grape. Eaten raw though, it can cause bad nausea.

The Berries can be used as a herbal liquid.
They are rich in Vitamin A and C and are excellant for shortening the life of flu and common colds..

Elderberry is also used as an application for infections and swelling, also as a wash for the skin for complexion and purification.

Elderberry Jelly: Ingredients
3 pounds elderberries
1/2 cup lemon juice
1 box low-sugar pectin
5 cups sugar
Wash and pick over berries and place in saucepan. Cook over low heat until juice begins. Simmer for 15 minutes. Strain liquid through jelly bag or double layer of cheesecloth and let drip overnight. Measure juice and add water, if necessary, to make 3 cups. Add lemon juice and pectin and bring to boil. Add sugar and boil for one minute. Pour into sterilized jars and cap with canning leads or seal with pectin. Jars sealed with canning lids may be processed for 5 minutes in boiling water bath, if desired. They go well with apples to make a fine jam.

It is important to note that only the fruits are OK to eat. The leaves and woody parts will do you know good whatsoever!

Many thanks for stopping by.
I hope you enjoyed it.
Please feel free to offer feedback on any aspect of the photograph.

Hi Beverley!

This will become my favourite jam! We have one in our garden and it's my job to make the jam! We sometimes also make syrup with the flowers. Hmmm... refreshing!

Your picture is so delicate, it's just beautiful. The colours are tender, the focus on the right place.

Superb!

Kind regards

Markus

Hi Bev

A beautiful composition - the colours and lighting are excellent. A really artistic shot.

It also reminds me that later I must go behind our office in the garden and get rid of an elder which has taken root in the last couple of years and is threatening to invade!

Hi Bev,
a very nice composition and a well chosen DOF, the Elderberry's in the background are nicely out of focus just enough. Great colours too, well done.

Hello Bev,
Beautiful composition showing the budding Elder! I remember having Elderberry wine in England - it was delicious. Here they're in flower now and look very beautiful especially in the pine forest where they brighten up the environment. Good details of the buds here and fine natural colours. I like the frame too!
TFS and cheers, Ulla

Hi Beverley.
I am often out of town and Internet and miss many shots as yours. It is a pity. However, I am here and I am getting pleasure form your delicate picture. I like pictured scene at whole, level of sharpness and blurriness, blameless framing and nice lighting and colour palette. Well done and TFS.
Alexei.
