Whooper swan...Cygnus cygnus is approx 60 inch, (same size as a mute swan)
Bewick's swan, Cygnus columbianus is smaller..about 48 inches...and the Bewick's has a smaller bill to the whooper...

Hi Geof,
simple and clear composition that I like very much for its very subtle colours. Too closely cropped in front of the swan, but artistically very convincing and pleasing for its utmost reduction to just two objects - the swan and the autumn leaf on grey waters - with a few elegantly drawn black strokes to the right.
