Hello Everyone,

Today is the first day of March, a month reknown for winds, in England. Last night the wind was certainly howling! I expected a lot of damage this morning but fortunately only a few small things have been blown over!

My posting today is of a very beautiful male blackbird. His vivid orange beak was very noticeable. He was sensibly very cautious as he ventured round the garden but fortunately rested long enough for me to get just two shots of him. This one was certainly the best as his wings are just disappearing off shot in the second one!

From British Garden Birds:
The glossy black plumage and the orange-yellow bill and eye ring of the mature male Blackbird makes it easily recognisable.

The mature female has dark-brown upper parts and underparts, and yellow-brown bill. The underparts are speckled and she usually has a pale throat (but not to be confused with the white-throated Ring Ouzel.

I do believe that albinism is quite common in blackbirds, but I have never seen one!

To all the people who have reviewed this, thank you for stopping by. Please feel free to offer feedback on any aspect of the photograph and I hope you have a lovely weekend!

Hi Beverley,
Wonderful shot of this Blackbird with very impressive sharpness and colours. Superb lighting and exposure management. I like the orange bill and the glint on the eye. Excellent POV and composition. Kudos.
TFS.
Sumon

The yellow beak and the yellow ring around the eye are the best features of this bird, Beverley.
Apparently, you have captured these features very well.
Thanks and regards.
Ram

Hi Beverley.
Simply great image of difficult for exposure blackbird. Exposure, details and sharpness of the bird image are blameless. I like farming and composition of the picture, impressive by colouration BG. Well done and kind regards.

Hello Bev
We had the wind also last night and this morning.
Now for this lovely male Blackbird...I see that you have put the tripod to good use to capture his impressive stance and beautiful beak and eye colours..These are one of the hardest birds to capture (at least I find they are!!) and you have got him really sharp showing his true beauty.
Tfs and My Best Regards
paul

Hi Beverley. Shooting a black bird is quite difficult to get all the details to show up, so I think this exposure is good.
The stone wall makes a nice setting for the shot as well.I never see this bird here, so TFS.
