Hello Everyone,

Today I am posting another shot of a blackbird.
I haven't captured blackbirds for quite a while, but in the last couple of weeks one, or several, have been visiting the garden quite regularly.

This particular one was hopping around on the soil, diligently searching for food. I just love the way they move in long hops and then stand to attention, listening carefully! I haven't seen any females which does seem strange as in previous years I have usually seen them in equal numbers!

Here is further information from ARKive:
Adult male blackbirds are, as the name suggests, totally black; they have a bright golden-yellow bill and a neat yellow ring around the eye during spring and summer. Towards the end of summer the bill starts to darken. Females are brown in colour, with dark, streaky mottling on the paler, rufous breast. Juveniles resemble females, but they have pale spots on the upperparts. A range of vocalisations is produced, including a loud 'pli-pli-pli' alarm call, and the fluty, melodious song.

Many thanks for stopping by.
Please feel free to offer feedback on any aspect of the photograph! :-)

Hi Beverly,

A wonderful Blackbird showing off so well against the background. Beautiful blacks with the wonderful yellow beak and eye ring. Excellent details of the feathers. I would love to see one of these in real life.

Hi Beverley. You havea low pov in this one which work well. good detail in the bkack feathers.Like the colour of the eye ring. I am only seeing males in the garden at the momment. not to sure why. TFS.
Nick..

Hello Bev

Your use of a tripod here has let you take a super sharp picture of Mr Blackbird with what is a very low shutter speed..No easy task to achieve as as your notes say there are a very hoppy bird who do give you a little bit of time when they stand to attention and evaluate whats going on around them..But then you have to move the tripod and refocus etc etc.
fascinating note also and as for females I have seen alot around my area so hopefully they were just cooking dinner around your way!!..(only joking)

All the Best

Paul

I love these blackbirds, and we don't see as many as we used to. One used to help my husband in the garden when he was digging it over, but if I appeared he disappeared.
Nicely captured Bev, thos eyes and beaks are so brilliant - well done

Hi Beverley,
Outstanding shot with immaculate sharpness and amazing black coloured plumage. Superb lighting and you have handled the exposure skillfully. The yellow ring around its eye and the yellow bill looks majestic and you have captured a fabulous pose here. I like the natural surrounding too. Excellently chosen POV and very nicely composed. Kudos.

Hello Beverly,
Beautiful image.eventhough it's difficult to bring out the details in black or white plumage you have successfully brought out the details.Good focus, sharpness and colours. The only suggestion I can make is that it would have been much more attractive picture if you have gone for al ower POV. :)
thanks for the share,
Smitha.

Hey Bev,

Hi Beverley.
What a charming close-up picture of the cute bird. I like perfect wide DOF and excellent reproduction of all features and details of the bird and surroundings. Despite the BG is rather simple it is looked with main character perfectly. My best regards and compliments.

Hi Bev

Excellent close-up with very good detail and saturation. I have not noticed females - I will look - but the males are singing away.

Hello Beverly,
Lovely close capture of the male Blackbird! Great focus on the eye and sharp details of the beautiful plumage. Very well composed too.
We have two males here in the garden every now and then squabbling over one female!

Hello Bev. This is stunning for a blackbird against the dark background. The sharpness and details of the plumage showed very well here. I like the eye and beaks which is contrasting in the composition. Regards. Jusni

Hi Bev,

This is exceptionally beautiful. I love the composition, and how the colours, although dark, still stand out against each other.
