White-face whistling duck (Dendrocygna viduata)

This is a shot that I got today at the London Wetland centre, it was very cold today although we had a little sun. I liked this one having it's wash and shaking out all excess water. I hope you like it too.

Distribution
Tropical America: Costa Rica to north Argentina and Uruguay.
Africa: south of Sahara from Senegal to Ethiopia and south to South Africa, also Madagascar and Comoro Islands. Occasionally move longer distances: reported in Spain and on Caribbean islands.

Habitat
Any wetlands, particularly fresh water in open country, tending to avoid wooded/forested areas.

Alternative names
White-faced Tree duck
Witwenpfeifgans (German)
Dendrocygne veuf (French)
Dendrocygne à face blanche (French)
Pato silbador cara blanca (Spanish)
Suirirí Cariblanco (Spanish)

Nest in small groups or loose colonies. Form large flocks containing thousands of birds. Sometimes mix with Dendrocygna bicolor - Fulvous whistling-ducks and Dendrocygna autumnalis - White-backed whistling-ducks in loafing areas, but within these aggregations they generally remain in groups of their own species. Breeding pairs form strong, probably life-long pair bonds. Ducklings are subject to predation by caiman, Jabiru storks, Maguari storks and caracaras. These ducks have a varied diet including grass, seeds, rice and aquatic invertebrates (molluscs, insects, and crustaceans).

Very good shot Paul, those are not easy colours to shoot and you did it very well.

Very good catch, you caught it in the middle of its shaking and the picture delivers the situation very good, the colours and exposure are great.

Amazing shot Paul.A brilliant capture.Crystal clear and not a motion blur in sight.Excellent work.I might have to chuck out an old favourite for this one.

Very good action shot Paul. I like the water drops around the head. It's "clean" action. Very sharp.

De toute beauté, une trés belle fhoto nature. Les détails du plumage et l'éclairage sont tout simplement parfaits. Je l'envoi directement à mes favorie. FÉLICITATIONS !

Nice moment captured, the duck has such a contented look about it ;-))
The action is nicely frozen with the 1/640 sec. Good balance between the white on the head and the dark body.
