[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Here's another shot from The London Butterfly House.
I'm not confident that this ID is correct, but the nearest looking butterfly I could find is the Gulf Fritillary. If anyone can confirm this ID or correct it, I'd be pleased to know.
Based on the ID being correct, here are some notes on the Gulf Fritillary.

Gulf Fritillary (Agraulis vanillae [Linnaeus])

Wing span: 2 1/2 - 3 3/4 inches (6.3 - 9.5 cm).

Identification: Upper side bright orange with black markings; 3 black-encircled white dots on fore wing leading edge. Underside brown; fore wing with orange at base; both wings with elongated, iridescent silver spots.

Life history: Males patrol for females, who lay eggs on many parts of the host plant. Caterpillars feed on most parts of the host. Adults overwinter in the south.

Flight: Throughout the year in south Florida and South Texas, January-November in the north. Number of broods has not been determined.

Caterpillar hosts: Various species of passion-vine including maypops (Passiflora incarnata) and running pop (P. foetida).

Adult food: Nectar from lantana, shepherd's needle, cordias, composites, and others.

Habitat: Pastures, open fields, second-growth subtropical forest and edges, city gardens.

Range: South America north through Central America, Mexico, and the West Indies to the southern United States. Wanders north to the central United States; rare northward.

Conservation: Not usually of concern.

The Nature Conservancy Global Rank: G5 - Demonstrably secure globally, though it may be quite rare in parts of its range, especially at the periphery.

Management needs: Cultivate host plants.

Face to face with butterfly, crazy eyes, wings as knives ;-) Wow, am I poet or something ;-) ? No, but I like POV. Very detailed shot, flower and insect are sharp and clear. Good work and never trust British Railways again Alan ;-)

Hi Alan, I reckon the ID is good. Did you enjoy the butterfly house? It's only 20 mins drive from me but I rarely go there, it's always so packed there and I find it hard to get motivated to get good shots with loads of people milling around. Still, they have some nice specimens there. It could do with being a little larger and the insect terrariums are pretty naff and very dark and dirty.

Anyway, nice shot. I think a little more DOF would have been nice but it's pretty dark in there sometimes. You picked a tough one on such a white blossom but it's good, with nice details and colours. Well done.

Hello Alan, It's a beautiful shot, very pleasing to the eye..It has great exposure, details and is very sharp where it counts..From this POV you probably would not get much of the wings anyway..Great job!

Personal assessment of the photo: excellent.
Very strong visual impact.
Aptness of the photo for the site: excellent.
Personal assessment of the note: complete.
Thank you very much for sharing, Alan. I enjoy myself with such beautifull picture.

Alan, these butterflies you posted are really nice. The details are sharp and the exposure spot on. The DOF is a tiny bit shallow and might I suggest you try this on ISO 200 and F8 or F10. This particular photo does have impact with the shallower DOF and its not a real problem. They are lovely.

Hi Alan, stunning PoV. Very good details and exposure. This is really beautiful. I loved it.
Very well done.

Excellent job Alan, this is not an easy one to pull off. Superb detail on the head and accurate DOF. Composition is perfect here also. Very good shot.

Such a lovely image, so delicate. The light is fantastic.
My sister lives not far from (I take it) Syon Park. I heard it was closing?
Well done on this image Alan. Thanks for posting.
