Here's a mum (or dad) coot feeding on of her chicks.

The 15 inch long coot is a large black water bird with a creamy white blob on it's forehead. Coots build a substantial nest which is well hidden among river or lakeside vegetation. The Coot defends it's territiry agressively. I have seen Coots (and Moorhens) that have lost legs (presumably from battles in which they use they legs and feet as weapons). The coot will lay 6 - 9 eggs in hte period of March to May and they'll hatch in 21-24 days. Come winter time coots may form large flocks on gravel pits, lakes and reservoirs. They feed on roots, small animals and insects - they love dragonfly larvae :-(.

I hope you like this feeding shot.

Hello Paul, very good low POV on this lovely capture. I think I would increase levels and the colour saturation on this just to enhance the green and brighten up the image with a little more colour. I dont want to give this one point because compo and sharpness is v good. Iv posted WS 6/10 Well done.

Hi Paul,
Excellent POV and well done on this capture.
Your lighting is well controlled and the colors are fine.
With respect to Emerson, I see no difference between this and w.s.
TFS and well presented,[note]

Superbe prise nature, l'action du petit faché le bec ouvert en fait une belle composition.

La lumière et la netteté des sujets sont parfaits.

Nice well timed image, colours and the detail of the pond weed really help to make this.

Very nice capture Paul with this 2 birds.
Very good POV and colours.
TFS.
Nico.

Hi Paul!
Nice scene. I like coots much more than ducks ;-) Hard to capture with all this blacks and whites together but you did it well. Great eyes - red on black and black on gray ;-)

Hello Paul!
Very nice and cute scane.Expression on the faces, clear details are wonderful.Limited DOF and lighting raised the value of composition.
In my opinion(may be it was not possible)it would be better if you caught this scane at a little righter side.TFS...:-)

Hello Paul

Nice low POV. Very good exposure and timing. A great moment captured. Well done and thanks.

Great capture Paul! Very good exposure, sharpness, DOF and details. The POV and interplay between the two is tremendous IMHO. Well done..

A very nice shot Paul.
I really like the low POV here.
You've handled the exposure very well indeed and the lighting is great.
Good sharp detail of both birds and very good composition.
Nice work,have a great weekend....the forecast looks a little better :-))

Great capture Paul!
The POV couldn't have been better, lighting and details are very good as well.
I like the composition. If it was centered the left part of the photo would've been "heavier" than the right - I think this space on the right helps well to balance the photo.
Overall, very interesting post.
WELL DONE & TFS

Hi Paul,
A very good shot of this adult and young Coot. Color, detail, and DOF are spot on in this one. Nice Shot!
Scott

Cool shot PDP. Interesting with the chic begging food from its mother. I would have chopped some off on the right, bottom and top to get into the subject a little more. Regards, Rob

Paul, this is indeed a great moment, but what I like the most about this shot is sharpness. To me, it's perfect.

Great pov, great composition.

A lovely scene.

The thumbnail doesn't do this justice, Paul. I love the unique point of view here, and the small dispute that seems to be taking place is very engaging.

Hi Paul,

The scene is great and the low POV is fantastic. I like the composition. On my monitor the left part and a part of the tail of the adult coot are way too dark. Is it my monitor? DOF is excellent aswell. TFS!

Regards,
Pieter
