Back to one of my favourite subjects...Herons. I took this on New Year's Eve, I got down to Bushy Park early to aviod the people but the sun didn't really come out for a while. I spotted two Herons quite close to each other and had previously tried to sneak up on this one only for it to fly away. I followed it and over a period of 10 - 15 mins I got closer and closer. I reckon I could have got closer too if the Granny and her dog hadn't got within 5 metres of the Heron, flap flap flap...away it goes. I managed to get a few shots and this was one of my favouites. I like it because it has that examining look of the Heron, the sun has lit the head and the wind has blown the head feathers very nicely.

I hope you like it too.

Very nice picture of this heron. Ik looks as if he just stepped out of bed.

Just what I was looking for - something different! Nicely done, Paul - waiting for that patch of sunlight really makes the shot, and I like the composition very much. Best wishes for the coming year.
Nigel.

Very nice Paul. Perfect exposure, colors & excellent sharpness. A great comp. with the vertical framing and long reeds I see. The BG islolates the subject very well also.
Very well done.

A real beauty Paul, wonderful unusual portrait with the halfprofile and wind-blown feathers, and those colours are exceptional. Nice use of DOF to isolate the subject with focus spot-on on the eye.

Wow. Paul... pure elegance. : )
I like the atmosphere created by the early morning light and the focus on the disheveled head, and everything else just subtly there.
Congratulations on an artful capture. TFS. : )

Hello Paul!
Magnificent capture.I liked POV,framing,clear details,sharpness,blurred BG,visual impact and composition a lot.TFS...:-)

Lovely shot Paul,
The heron looks as if it was really posing you and the wind helped a lot. Framing is wonderfull, exposure perfect and whole photo very clear.
I love the depth of this picture. It seems that the grass in FG creates it.
Lovely colours too :)
Very well done on this one!

Paul, the artistic level of you photos have really moved on to the next level. This is impressive. Love this.

Happy New Year.

Nice to see a little bit of action in this veiw paul and the lighting adds just that little extra even the shadow of the crest on it's neck. TFS

Une prise exceptionnelle, la composition est très jolie.Félicitations pour l'éclairage originale dirigé à la tête de l'oiseau le Bg qui fait bien ressortir les couleurs et le sujet.

Merci!

Joseph.

Hi Paul,
I really like this shot. I like the composition and framing, espically the use of the slightly OOF reeds in front of the Heron. To me they add a great deal to the overall feel of the photo. They are shy by nature, so it would be normal to see them peering around or over some vegetation to look around. The strong light on the head really looks great with the wind blown plumage.
