The magpie goose (Anseranas semipalmata, an Australian species) is a very important part of the lives of Aboriginal people across northern Australia. These birds are abundant swamps and grasslands of the floodplains of tropical rivers; usually near the coast (except when they are from Hammersmith). They are hunted as a source of food and eggs are harvested from their nests in swamps. Magpie geese nest during the wet season and the eggs are ready to be collected in the middle of the wet, in February. The longer the eggs sit in the nest. Their diet is essentially vegetarian. Aquatic plants and grasses, including seeds, bulbs and tender rice shoots are al on the Menu..
Traditional practice prevents pregnant women from eating goose: arrngg ilg, ar ijal, "don't eat 'em if you're pregnant."

Hope you like it, this is one from a visit to the Wetland Centre in Hammersmith.

Hi Paul
This is a GREAT mug shot, congrats, and a new species for me as well. No nits
Go there again end March - go to the left, where they have the different country's birds, and check out the moothens fighting - You are bound to shoot some winners. Just remember to crank-up the ISO bit. I shot over 300 pics of a pair of fighting males, but had the camera three days and forgot about ISO, being used to slides, so no winners

Great portrait Paul.
Never seen this before, it looks beautiful
Very good sharpness, exposure, details, pose and colours.
Excellent work.

Hi Paul. I'm happy you are back to share with us your great shots. I like this one for the unusual goose look compared with those we know. Never seen it before. BG grey tone is ideal to match bill and head colors. Subtle hues differentiating eye pupil from iris are superb and show how well this image is exposed. Very good framing to a portrait size and excellent details.

Hallo Paul!!!!!

Nice portrait, Paul!
Very sharp details, good composition and light conditions.

Great mug shot of this scruffy looking fellow, good sharpness, colours and DOF, nicely oof bg.

Paul, I agree with everyone before me: this is just a fantastic close-up. What I like particularly is the level of detail and colors on the bill. TFS.

Fine details, spark in the eye, sharp, harmonized background color with the subject, excellent composition = super picture!

Paul, Great job on this. I like the detail seen in the black plumage - you handled the light/exposure perfectly! Well composed with a good neutral BG.. Yes, I like it!!
