This is a very interesting shot, because of the moment captured and the look of the flies - they are really shiny. I think you did well on exposure here, POV and framing are great and whole shot very clear.

Hi Andy,
Great shot, very difficult capture. The exposure, detail & DOF is excellent. Well composed, nice POV. I like the wing blur top-side, as the hoverfly prepares to take-off.
I found that many times the flash would disturb on these, before the camera could shutter. Try 2nd curtain flash sync, might help. Well done!

To me it looks like 'tandem take off' is not the only tandem activity...
Mmm, 5-6mm surely deserves a WOW here and the exposure control under these difficult conditions deserves another WOW.
Brilliant capture and presented in a lovely composition. The colours sure looks good, the DOF is spot-on, and the BG is excellent.
