[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Just to prove you definatly do not have to live out in the country to find true wild life, I post this one in surrport of Hendricks city images of wildlife found there.
This common fern was shot during a trip into the city centre of Nottingham last Tuesday evening with a few of our camera club. The idea was to see what we could find, and hoped to able to show some how to photograph wildlife. we chose an area that has a cannal running though it and there has been a lot of redevelopement mainly in the form of trendy bars and night clubs , but leaving some original features such as this cast iron bridge built some time in the 1800's to carry a road over the cannal. Even though you would of thought 2 bits of metal would not make a good place to grow, this Male / Buckler fern (Dryopteris filix-mas) had other ideas and seemed well established in the gap/crack between the 2 bits. more normally seen in damp hedge bottoms and woodland floors across europe.
It was growing 15ft - 5m above the tow path and to get it I had to use a combination of standing/balancing on the end of the bar to open the lock gates and manual zoom X5 maximum which explains the still slight upward veiw.
shot in centre weighted metering mode because single point rendered the subject either too dark or the white paint of the bridge totally burnt out, so a compomise had to be found, and shadows and highlights to make final adjustments.
Its not quiet white because it was taken with the sun setting so orange tones visible in the image.
Hope you like this one, I know its not cute and furry but it is wild and proves the tenacity of life one this small planet of ours.

Great idea to present plants growing in big cities. I like it! Good looking fern, real alpinist and an interesting note. TFS Robert!

Great shot!
Maybe not very colourful and beautiful, but very interesting. Nature is trying to get back to places where it ruled before humans came.
There is a building here where in the crack in window ledge grows a 1,5 m high birch. Of course nobody planted it there.
I like the photo very much.
Well done!
